At the start of the New Year, over 2,500 foreclosures were filed in the City of Chicago, according Chicago Rehab Network's monthly foreclosure report, A Picture of Chicago Foreclosures for January 2010.

The January numbers represent a continuing upward trend in foreclosure filings despite the county-wide moratorium on foreclosure filings and the federal government's effort to increase loan modifications for troubled homeowners.

Completed Foreclosures
CRN's report also provides an analysis of completed foreclosures. In January, sales from auctions resulted in 362 properties being repossessed by a bank as REO. CitiMortgage held the highest number of REO properties received at auction followed by Deutsche Bank.

Foreclosure Filings By Ward
Also new in this report are foreclosure filings by Chicago wards.  In January, the 2nd (Fioretti), 17th (L. Thomas), and 24th (Dixon) wards reported the highest numbers of new filings.
