ABUW experienced a very strong year for our 30th Anniversary. There was growth in every area including the amount of grant money we were able to allocate, the community connections being built & strengthened, and new programming focused on Children and Youth.

To celebrate our 30th Anniversary, we launched the Fund for Children & Youth. We are extremely proud to announce that we met our goal of $30,000 in new gifts for the Fund! The Board of Directors voted to use a portion of this fund to address growing concerns about substance abuse by our youth as expressed by parents, the police and mental health workers. ABUW will bring a new program to the community in January: former NBA basketball player, Chris Herren, will speak about his own journey in hopes of helping individuals and families struggling with substance abuse and addiction.

At ABUW, we feel fortunate to be able to invest in solutions to our community's human service needs. Thank you for your continued support.

The SAGE Fund - Special Assistance for Grants and Emergencies Fund

ABUW has launched a new fund to serve immediate needs within the community. This special assistance fund for grants and emergencies will give us greater flexibility to respond to needs that arise outside of our regular grant cycle. This will also be a vehicle to meet urgent needs such as food, fuel and rent for those struggling to make ends meet. Requests must come to ABUW via a human service agency, not directly from individuals.

Congratulations to Richard Ward
Annual Meeting Volunteer AwardAt our 2012 Annual Meeting, the ABUW Board was thrilled to recognize and thank Richard Ward for his five years of service. Richard has selflessly donated his time and expertise to ABUW. As a member of the Board of Directors and as a volunteer, he kept our communications, technology and grants process running smoothly. He led the Crafty Racers team to local victory in the 2010 Community Chest Challenge and his company, Survey Crafter, supported this event and Casino Royale as a valued business sponsor.
