NUCA of NM Newsletter
July 15, 2009
President's Message,

--Tomorrow - July 16, 2009 the NM Department of Workforce Solutions Labor Relations Division will be accepting 2009 annual wage surveys online. Please submit your payroll data for Public and Non-Public Works construction projects for all work performed in the month of JUNE 2009. The data submitted will set new wage rates for all public works construction projects in 2010.

It is very important for our industry for you to participate in this survey,  since NUCA of NM is a plaintiff in a lawsuit which is attempting to  keep this survey intact for future reporting rather than using collective bargaining agreements. CLICK HERE to go directly to the NMDWS Web Page.

--The next NUCA of NM Membership meeting is scheduled for August 20, 2009 at 11:30am at the Albuquerque Country Club. NUCA President Lyle Schellenberg will be the guest speaker. We will also recognize the Platinum Level Zia Partnership Members. You can register online at www.nucanm.org/event.html.

--There is one DOI ARRA funded project in New Mexico. Funding will be used on construction of one phase of the Southside Municipal Effluent Polishing and Water Reclamation Project, which will provide highly treated municipal and industrial effluent for irrigation and industrial demands in the Southeast Heights and South Valley in Albuquerque. 2009 Safety Director's Forum

Since 1994, the National Utility Contractors Association's Safety Directors Forum (SDF) has been bringing together utility construction safety and risk management professionals from around the country to learn from expert presenters and each other about how to create and maintain accident-free workplaces and jobsites.
NUCA LOGO
This year's forum is scheduled for December 2-3 at the New York-New York Hotel  in Las Vegas, Nevada. As always the program will be include safety presentations related to the needs of utility contractors followed by another great Open Forum. The tentative list of presentations for 2009 includes: Bridging the Spanish Language and Culture Gap, Beyond Tab Data, Heavy Equipment Operator Orientation, and Dealing with Hazardous Materials and Waste. In the concluding Open Forum attendees will have an opportunity to discuss their own company challenges and share successful safety solutions. Some of the topics for discussion that have already been suggested include: Job Safety Analysis, Site Specific Safety Plans, Driver Qualification and Fleet Safety, OSHA Multiemployer Policy, OSHA Voluntary Protection Program and OSHA Reform. Industry safety directors and risk managers come back to SDF year after year to stay ahead of the hazards lurking in every workplace and on every jobsite. As one regular put it, "Anytime you can learn from professionals ready and willing to lend their expertise and offer advice in matters related to safety and safety management, it's time well spent." We could offer numerous testimonials like this one, but there is only one way to truly appreciate the value of this unique experience, and that's to be a part of it. So, mark your calendar and stay tuned for additional details.

CICA -

APDThe Construction Industry Crime Alliance (CICA) was created to help the businesses in the construction industry. All NUCA of NM members are welcome to attend and sign up for crime alerts and information at the APD web page www.safecityabq.org.

We will meet monthly at NW Area Command Headquarters; 4051 Ellison Avenue, NW 87114 (right across the street from Cibola High School) The next meeting will be on August 11 , 2009  at 10:30am.

*** date changed so that Rocky can attend

The CICA is a tool for Association members that sends out alerts of job-site crime and also has the ability for you to report crime on your job sites (system is not intended to be used in place of an actual police report). This program is an avenue to work closely with APD to help curtail job-site crimes and catch the criminals in the process. Bring your concerns, reports, incidents (even un-reported) to this meeting where you can also sign up on-line to receive valuable information about crime on construction job sites.

To become a member you must sign up through the APD Web Page and then be verified as a NUCA of NM Member.

CLICK HERE to go to the web page to sign up. The CICA is second on the list.
OSHA Training

Need OSHA 500 or 510 training?

The University of Texas at Arlington would like to teach the OSHA 500 and OSHA 510 in Albuquerque if they can get a class of 10-12 together. NUCA of NM is working with another association to help bring this training here and keep the cost as low as possible. At this time, the approximate cost would be $595 for the OSHA 510. Please be advised that you can no longer take the OSHA 500 online anymore.

If you are interested in this training, please contact Jane at the Association office at 505 888 0752.
