SAM - System Award Management Transition Begins - Encounters DifficultiesThe System for Award Management (SAM) which combines eight federal procurement systems and the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance into one new system went live yesterday, July 29th. Unexpected issues have temporarily shut the system down. Local Firm One of Three in Washington Earning SeaPort-e Award
July 13, 2012 Congratulations to West Sound Workforceon its recent award as a Navy SeaPort-e contract holder. West Sound Workforce has offices in Poulsbo and Gig Harbor, serving the West Sound for the last decade. SAFE Boats International awarded U.S. Coast Guard contract
July 16, 2012 SAFE Boats International was recently selected to build the U.S. Coast Guard's new Cutter Boat-Over the Horizon-IV. The contract calls for up to 101 boats procured over 7 years and could be worth $59 million if all 100 new Coast Guard "Over the Horizon" boats are funded. OPG moves ahead with Port Gamble development plansJuly 5, 2012 @ 12:55pm | KPBJ| Rodika TollefsonOlympic Property Group will be submitting its plans for developing Port Gamble by the end of the year. The company hosted a public meeting at the end of June to share the plans with the public and solicit feedback.
Pope Resources, parent company of OPG, announced in 2007 its plant to divest itself of major land holdings in the Port Gamble area, including 7,000 acres of forestland it has owned for about 160 years. As part of that plan, the company proposed to preserve about 85 percent of the land as open space in exchange for increased residential density in the Port Gamble area. The plan was opposed by the S'Klallam Tribe and environmental groups and later abandoned. Read more...

State reports gain of 10,000 jobs in June
July 19, 2012 - The KPBJ , OLYMPIA - June continued the steady job growth in Washington, with an estimated gain of 10,200 jobs, seasonally adjusted, according to the state's Employment Security Department. During the same period, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged, at an estimated 8.3 percent. Read more...

SBA launches program to help transitioning service members become entrepreneurs - Operation Boots to Business: From Service to Startup

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has joined with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) to launch a training program for transitioning service members and veterans to help them become entrepreneurs and create jobs. Operation Boots to Business: From Service to Startup is a national initiative that will be piloted with the U.S. Marine Corps. The announcement was made July 12 by U.S. Small Business Administrator Karen Mills and U.S. Marine Corps representatives at Quantico, Va.
