New Business Corner Elegance Gets a Makeover |
|
Before After
The new Fields Corner retailer Corner Elegance at 1530A Dorchester Avenue received a storefront window makeover recently. FCMS Design Committee member Sierra Rothberg helped give the beauty supply and children's clothing store a new look to help increase business.
Sierra is an art teacher at the Epiphany School and has been working with her students and on her own in conjunction with FCMS' Design Committee to help improve the look of Fields Corner. The Window Makeover Project aims to give business owners a glimpse of how small, low-cost changes to the appearance of their windows can make significant improvements in the look of their storefronts and attract new customers. Sierra met with storeowner Emmanuel Chauvet to discuss her makeover plan, which used a netted material backdrop to separate the window display from the store while still allowing transparency and light to spill out unto the avenue. To maximize the window space, Emmanuel built shelves on the lower portion of the window for smaller items to be displayed. The whole project was fairly inexpensive but required dedication from Emmanuel to get it done. According to Sierra, "he has a great eye for displaying merchandise in his store and I wanted to give him a set up that was easy to change and update several times a year."
The Design Committee also encourages storeowners who are looking to put up new signs or awnings or do other renovations to their storefronts to apply for reimbursement grants that are available through FCMS' Storefront Improvement Program.
