Message from CEO Header

Greetings!

When it comes to providing technology to support our nation's first responders, one size does not fit all. Feature requirements and budgets vary greatly among public safety agencies. That's why EFJohnson has expanded its line of portable radios to serve all of your communications needs. EFJohnson now offers a comprehensive portfolio of subscriber solutions through its ES and Viking™ lines of portable radios for public safety agencies, public works departments, federal agencies, military and other public service entities.

Earlier this year, we introduced the Viking line of portable radios, and the reception to this rugged, reliable radio has surpassed all of our expectations. Within only a few months, the Viking VP600 has become a top choice for public safety agencies seeking new and replacement radios for statewide and city/county systems, including those with plans to seamlessly migrate to Project 25 (P25) Phase II. The VP600 radios have already been deployed widely across much of North America including the States of Georgia, Wisconsin, Mississippi and California, as well as Latin America.

It's easy to see why public safety agencies are adopting the Viking line at a rapid rate. This high-quality, cost-effective portable radio is packed with advanced audio and visual features, such as the top display with backlighting, 2.5 Watts of maximum audio for loud and clear sound, and the AMBE+2 vocoder to eliminate background noise, making communication effortless even in the most hazardous environments.

EFJohnson has further expanded the Viking line with a Viking VP600 Federal configuration that is equipped with key security and programming features for federal agencies, the military and the Department of Defense. And, both radios are now available in three distinct models across the 700/800 MHz, UHF and VHF bands.

With so much emphasis recently placed on Viking, some customers who prefer the ES radios have expressed concern that we may be eliminating this line. The ES line is thriving, and I assure you that it will remain one of our featured brands.

The ES Series provides public works and public safety agencies with a cost-effective communications alternative without having to sacrifice mission-critical features, such as EFJohnson's game-changing AMBE+2 vocoder for superior digital sound. EF Johnson was the first supplier to offer the AMBE+2 vocoder, and it is still the highest quality digital vocoder in the public safety marketplace.

Our award-winning 51FIRE ES portable radio is the first communications safety device created specifically for firefighters who are exposed to unique environments with hazardous conditions. Features such as yellow housing, blade knobs and our FIRESafe software, the most advanced communications software available in Land Mobile Radio technology today, allow firefighters to focus on the mission at hand.

Both ES and Viking lines are compatible with Project 25 (P25) trunked and conventional modes, as well as APCO 16 Motorola SMARTNET®/SmartZone®.

EFJohnson remains committed to providing you with communications solutions that are best suited to your specific requirements and budgets. We look forward to visiting with each of you to identify the right subscriber line for your agency.

Sincerely,

Andy Adams, CEO

EFJohnson Technologies

EFJohnson's systems continue to earn high praise from customers who are personally experiencing the benefits of our mission-critical communications solutions. Since we think no one tells the EFJohnson story better than our customers, we're letting them do the talking in a new series of video case studies.

Our first two video case studies focus on the systems we created for the State of Wisconsin and for Puerto Rico. They were introduced to audiences at the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International Conference & Expo August 20-21 at the Minneapolis Convention Center in Minneapolis, Minn.

EFJohnson's ATLAS P25 system solutions provide the proven versatility to meet the specific needs of each customer, regardless of system type.

ATLAS P25 Conventional

Provides mixed-mode analog/P25 operation, with enhanced trunk-like functionality, enabling a graceful, cost-effective radio migration strategy. Conversion to a P25 trunked system is made simple, primarily through a software upgrade to the ATLAS controller.

ATLAS P25 Trunking

Utlizes a shared pool of repeater channels to facilitate communication between more talkgroups and significantly more users than a dedicated repeater channel in a Conventional system.

ATLAS P25 Hybrid

An industry-first, unique implementation that combines Conventional and Trunked repeater channels into a single system, reducing total cost of ownership.

ATLAS P25 Simulcast

Provides simulcast functionality for up to 32 sites, reducing the quantity of frequencies needed for the system operation. Unique smarter design distributes the master site functionality and automatically sychronizes the system timing, providing unmatched redundancy, reduced maintenance and lower total cost of ownership.

Waterbury, Conn. has awarded a $4-million contract to EFJohnson to deploy the next generation of the city's radio communications system. EFJohnson will provide the city with our ATLAS™ P25 Trunked Simulcast System Solution, a complete Land Mobile Radio (LMR) simulcast solution featuring our patented, fully distributed architecture for outstanding reliability, resiliency and scalability.

The ATLAS P25 Trunked Simulcast Solution is designed to provide customers with the most flexible communications solution in the industry for the lowest cost of ownership. The system's fully distributed architecture allows every simulcast site to control the entire network, making the system resilient to one or multiple failures across a wide-area network. ATLAS' distributed architecture also eliminates the need for expensive central controllers or master sites, enabling users to deploy a more efficient multi-site simulcast system and allow easy expansion as needs and budgets change.

The City of Waterbury's ATLAS P25 system will include three nine-channel, 800 MHz, P25 trunked simulcast sites using EFJohnson's simulcast repeater. The repeater includes the voter comparator and simulcast controller in a single unit, reducing spares and operational cost. The use of an integrated simulcast repeater in a distributed architecture eliminates the need for prime and master sites while significantly increasing redundancy and channel uptime. The system will also include 10 StarGate™ Dispatch Consoles at the City of Waterbury's dispatch center and four consoles at the new emergency operations center at Fire Station 11. EFJohnson's StarGate consoles feature next-generation graphical user interfaces and superior audio fidelity, which minimize the risk of miscommunication. The user-friendly and highly intuitive display modules improve workflow and require little downtime for operator training.

Deployment of Waterbury's ATLAS P25 system is expected to take place in 2013.

Providing reliable communications solutions for the defenders or our nation is no laughing matter for EFJohnson. However, an event to assist injured soldiers was filled with fun and games as EFJohnson employees eagerly bid against each other for an opportunity to throw a pie in the face of a company executive during the "Pie in the Face" fundraiser to support the Wounded Warrior Project.

None of our executives were safe from the aim of their staff - not even CEO Andy Adams, whose pie secured a winning bid of $22. The highest bid of the event was for a pie aimed at COO, Jim Green, which was sold for $100.

A total of $2,600 was raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, an organization dedicated to supporting the needs of injured soldiers. The donation will be used to fund supplies for the Transitional Care Packs that are provided to wounded service members when they arrive at military trauma units. The packs contain items such as clothing, toiletries and playing cards. Family Support Totes, which are provided to the spouse or a family member of an injured soldier who is in the hospital, will also be funded by this donation. These packs include items such as a day planner, information about support organizations, a neck pillow and toiletries.

In July of 2012, the Viking VP600 was tested on Harris County's Motorola infrastructure during two live burns by the Atascocita Volunteer Fire Department in Harris County, Texas. The chiefs conducting the burn tests reported the following results:

______________________

Viking VP600s received calls at much higher signal levels than other radios operating on system

______________________

Sound quality of the VP600s was superior to anything the chiefs have ever used at the training site

______________________

Significantly lower level of feedback during interior use - enhanced ability to hear crews inside building

______________________

Fire personnel found the VP600 to be user friendly - easy to change talk groups and turn knobs

 "EFJohnson's

Viking VP600 radios worked great on the Harris County SMARTNET/SmartZone system. We anticipated that each product would perform as well as the other, but we never expected to see the Viking VP600 measurably outperform the other product."
