Greetings
Earlier this month, our nation observed a tragic milestone - the 10th anniversary of 9-11. While the weeks and days surrounding this solemn occasion provided our nation with a time to collectively remember the victims, it also served as an opportunity for us to thank our emergency responders and think about how far our industry has come in the last decade.
It is well documented that 9-11 changed the future of the communications industry. Proprietary products and other technological difficulties hindered the efforts of emergency responders as they bravely worked to save lives. Since that day, our industry has been working to create reliable interoperable solutions to enable seamless communications among agencies and across county lines during future disasters.
I am proud to say that EFJohnson immediately responded to the call for interoperable communications. We were one of the first companies to deploy systems and equipment that are compliant with the Project 25 (P25) suite of standards for radio equipment interoperability. Today, our comprehensive product portfolio includes P25 compliant two-way radios and P25 compliant trunked and conventional infrastructure systems.
The quality and innovation of our products has been recognized by public safety agencies across the nation. Our equipment is used by countless first responders across the U.S. and worldwide, as well as by thousands of U.S. military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In addition to developing our own interoperable communications solutions, EFJohnson staff members have been instrumental in helping to develop the P25 standards that have been adopted by the government to ensure multiple public safety agencies can talk to one another in an emergency.
We have come a long way since 9-11, but our work is never complete. The safety of our nation's emergency responders, and the communities they protect, is EFJohnson's highest priority. With this in mind, we will continue producing high-quality reliable equipment so our nation's first responders can focus on what is most important - saving lives.
Sincerely,
Andy Adams, CEO

EFJohnson's ATLAS ™ P25 System Solution was recently selected as a 2011 Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) "Hot Product" and will be featured in the November issue of Public Safety Communications. The company unveiled ATLAS at the APCO International Conference and Expo (APCO) August 7-9 in Philadelphia, PA, and the system immediately received praise from conference participants and industry editors for its innovative distributed architecture, flexibility and low cost.
The fully distributed architecture, a distinctive feature of
the ATLAS Systems Solution, eliminates the need for a central controller. This substantially increases system reliability
and makes it easy to scale from a single site to a state-wide network.

Across the nation, EFJohnson is being recognized as the vendor of choice by agencies who want to upgrade their communications systems with low-cost, flexible system solutions that will meet FCC narrowbanding mandates and allow users to interoperate with adjacent communities. Over the summer, the company was awarded contracts with Wise County (Texas), Iowa County (Wisconsin), Sawyer County (Wisconsin), and Puerto Rico.
In Wise County, EFJohnson will deploy its conventional P25 system solution, a cost effective option for meeting the County's immediate communication needs and allow for future growth. Its distributed architecture, which offers similar features found in more expensive, wide-area trunked systems, eliminates traditional single points of failure and links sites using its distributed, self-healing network.

On August 25, 2011, the Superior Police Department of Wisconsin conducted a test to determine which portable radio had the best audio quality and vocoder performance in digital mode. Four radios were tested:
Radio 1: Kenwood P25 Compliant
Radio 2: Motorola XTS 2500
Radio 3: Motorola APX 6000
Radio 4: EFJohnson 51SL
The results of the test showed that the EFJohnson 51SL had the best performance, providing the greatest clarity and ease of understanding when operating in a high noise environment of an activated siren or an idling fire engine.

Benefits of Distributed Architecture

Earlier this quarter, EFJohnson Technologies announced the launch of its ATLAS™ P25 Systems Solution. This launch was a key milestone for both EFJohnson and the LMR P25 community, as it highlighted the benefits of using a distributed architecture to deliver reliable, flexible, and scalable P25 infrastructure solutions to our customers.
The ATLAS solution uses an IP-based, fully distributed architecture allowing it to easily scale from a single site to a state-wide network. In addition, the fully distributed architecture eliminates the need for a central controller, which significantly increases system reliability, decreases cost, and ensures our customers are able to successfully execute their mission-critical tasks.
