Ecumenical Advocacy Days

Washington, D.C.
March 13-16, 2009

Ecumenical Advocacy Days is a growing movement in our Christian community, grounded in biblical and theological principles and built upon our shared traditions of justice, peace and the integrity of creation.  It is co-sponsored by the National Council of Churches and Church World Service, our member communions, and other Christian partners with strong witness programs in Washington.

Our goal for EAD is that it strengthen the Christian voice and mobilize faithful Christians for advocacy on a wide variety of public policy issues. We do this through worship, theological reflection and opportunities for learning and specific face-to-face witness in the offices of elected officials.

This annual event is attended by more than 700 Christians, both lay and clergy, from all parts of the United States.  Together they spend the weekend exploring the background of key issues facing the nation.  On Monday, they venture to Capitol Hill to make their case to members of Congress and their staffs.  It's an energizing, enabling experience for those who participate.

The next Advocacy Days event is March 13-16, 2009.  We want to expand this unique opportunity for growth and action to even more of our ecumenical family.

The Partners in Compassion Institute

The Partners in Compassion Institute (PIC) will support 20 faith and community based organizations that serve at-risk youth or the homeless in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, Calhoun, and Orangeburg counties.  PIC grows faith and community based organizations by increasing capacity in Leadership Development, Organizational Development, Program Development, Revenue Development, and Community Engagement.  Participation in the PIC Institute is granted on a competitive basis.   Accepted organizations will receive one-on-one technical assistance from United Way staff, free trainings in nonprofit management, and financial assistance ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 to strengthen the organization's ability to market its programs, operate, fundraise, and lead.
