What would YOU do if you believed
these recent news items?
  • Children in Darfur continue being recruited to fight; and suffer a wide range of abuse from abductions and rape to mutilations and killings.
  • Darfuri rape victim: "[Women and girls] were raped by any man who wanted.  Whenever any man came to them, the women were supposed to comply, otherwise they were badly beaten or killed."

What Would Jesus Have YOU Do?

A pertinent question.  Clear direction for his disciples and all who recognize his teachings is found in this message:

"Then all the nations will be arranged before him and he will sort the people out--

"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's foundation. And here's why:

I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.'

"Then the King will say, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me-YOU did it to ME.'"

Jesus [Matt: 25: 31d-40, adapted, The Message]

In July the UN Security Council passed Resolution 1769 authorizing a multinational force to provide security for refugees and protection for humanitarian aid workers.  If implemented, this resolution has the power to stop the rape, abuse, and genocide.

At 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 6, the Darfur Action Group of South Carolina will RALLY on the steps of our Statehouse to insist Resolution 1769 be carried out.

Rally to demonstrate
YOUR intolerance of genocide.

Prayer of a Darfuri Woman

"I want to join my prayers to many other voices.  Every few months we are driven away from one refugee camp to the other, so far in the desert where nothing, nothing at all exists.

This is no way for a human being to live.
No way to live in such a shocking place

--uncultivated, waterless, treeless and barren region!
Everything is barren, hell, hell!
Yet, Lord, we believe you are there, beside us.
We pray for all the Africans living now our same condition.  Bring back peace and tranquility to our beloved country.  Peace which is desired by everybody, the old and young, rich and poor, women and men. Amen. Amen. Let it be so."
Gloria Silvano, Sudan/CAFOD
