Chilean Earthquake Relief Update
Over the weekend, the massive 8.8 earthquake in Chile displaced hundreds of thousands of Chileans. It also sent tsunami warnings across the Pacific Ocean. Remarkably, the tsunami warnings outside of Chile, including warnings for Hawaii and American Samoa, were called off with little damage.
Chile has now requested aid from the international community specifically for medical relief and setting up temporary hospitals to treat the injured. We are working with our partnering relief organizations to coordinate the in-kind product needs as the situation unfolds. To view these needs as they are made available, visit www.aidmatrix.org/Chile |
An Update On The Haitian Earthquake Response
The Aidmatrix team continues to be heavily involved in the ongoing Haitian Earthquake recovery efforts. Our teams are still traveling to Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, and Washington, D.C. to work with the largest relief and government organizations to ensure the relief programs have the support they need. In addition, we are working with our private sector partners to display real time needs, helping NGOs through clean up and long term recovery.

ISTAT's Airlink program is matching their partners' available air transportation with the relief efforts. They have transported cargo into Port-Au-Prince, airlifted injured earthquake victims to other hospitals, and helped relief workers get back home to their families. Airlink offered these donations via the Aidmatrix Network and worked through the nights and evenings answering satellite phone calls and completing customs paperwork. Many don't realize that with only one single runway in Port-Au-Prince, the number of flights each day is limited and available air transportation is an incredibly valuable asset.

To date, more than $50M in in-kind offers have been made on the Aidmatrix Network for the Haitian relief. More than $110K in cash was raised to directly assist nonprofits working in Haiti on the relief efforts. The next round of concern is about the approaching rainy season which will introduce a whole new set of challenges for the relief operations. We keep moving, to keep the aid moving, to help the Haitian people rebuild. Aid is still needed in Haiti, you can donate to the relief efforts through www.aidmatrix.org/haiti.

FareShare and Aidmatrix Join Forces To Fight Food Poverty in the United Kingdom
FareShare, the United Kingdom's national food charity, has teamed up with the Aidmatrix Foundation to implement the latest version of The Aidmatrix Network™ to enable FareShare to better manage food surplus for redistribution to vulnerable people across the UK. FareShare redistributes surplus food from the food industry to a network of more than 500 local charities that support homeless and other vulnerable people. FareShare plans to roll out the Aidmatrix NetworkTM to all its depots during 2010-2011, ultimately linking these with the community organisations that benefit from the FareShare food, as well as the food companies that are partnering with FareShare to ensure that their surplus food is put to good use.
