FROM THE CENTER: NOW!
WMG Opening Reception: Friday, January 22, 6-9 p.m.
WCA Reception: Friday: February 12, 6-9 p.m.
The Women's Caucus for Art (WCA) is pleased to announce its national exhibition 'From the Center: Now!' juried by feminist author and art historian Lucy Lippard. The show is on display from Jauary 22 to February 25, 2010 at Woman Made Gallery. The exhibition includes a variety of artwork in all media by more than 75 women. The show's theme is a play on words taking in account Lippard's groundbreaking volume of feminist art criticism "From the Center." This exhibition looks at both the history of women's art and its current state as we move past the first decade of the 21st century.
Lucy Lippard is an internationally known writer, activist and curator. An early champion of feminist art, she was among the first writers to recognize the dematerialization at work in conceptual art. She is the author of 18 books on contemporary art, including "From the Center" and "The Pink Glass Swan." Lippard has received the 1968 Guggenheim Fellowship, the Frank Mather Award for Criticism from the College Art Association and two National Endowment of the Arts grants in criticism. She has written art criticism for Art in America, The Village Voice, In These Times, and Z Magazine. Lippard received the Women's Caucus for Art's LifeTime Achievement Award in 2007.

WHILE IN CLASS...
Opening Reception: Friday, January 22, 6-9 p.m.

"While in Class..." juried by Lily Mayfield, features work by 35 emerging women artists. Though the media, style, and content are all varied, a constant theme resonates: this work, produced while in class, illustrates a struggle and developmental process of discovering who they are and what they do as artists.
Juror Lily Mayfield is a photographic artist and educator. She teaches photography at Columbia College Chicago and College of DuPage. Mayfield has an MFA in photography from Columbia College, and a BFA from University of Florida. Her work has been exhibited nationally.
