FAMILY ALBUM
Opening Reception: Friday, November 20, 6-9 p.m.
"Family Album" seeks to illustrate the many ways that family can be interpreted, through varied media and styles. Just as notions of family are malleable, the ways in which the idea of a "family album" is conceived are flexible and individual. This exhibition includes works by 31 artists and subsequently divulges 31 different interpretations on how we define family, but also on how family defines us.
The exhibition is juried by Karen Irvine, Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College Chicago, where she also teaches Photography.
Exhibiting artists are Kristin Anderson, Sarah Baranski, Jacqueline Bates, Cynthia Bittenfield, Stephanie Booth, Marion Coleman, Sara Peak Convery, Amanda Dandeneau, Barbara Diener, Kia Hui Er, Elissa Farrow-Savos, Charlotte Freed, Niki Grangruth, Joanie Holleb, Kitty Hubbard, Heather Klinkhamer, Megan Martens, Mary Mihelic, Sandi Miot, Jennifer Murray, Anna Ogier-Bloomer, S. Patricia Patterson, Amy Pleasant, Dawn Roscoe, Sola Sawyerr, Helene Smith-Romer, Penelope Comfort Starr, Katherine Strause, Kimberly Strom, Yeachin Tsai, and Kelly Weime.

CROSS POLLINATION
Opening Reception: Friday, November 20, 6-9 p.m.
"Cross Pollination," a group juried by Laurel Delaney, is consisting entirely of works in encaustic wax or encaustic as a component of mixed media.
Thirty-one women utilize what is known as the oldest painting technique, dating back to the 4th Century B.C. Pigment is added to molten beeswax, or sometimes animal or vegetable wax. The technique of mixing paint with wax produces highly textured works with many layers fused together, resulting in an organic and ephemeral aesthetic.
Artists whose work is included in this show are Beth Billups, Barbara Cone, VA. dePintor, Janet Bartlett Goodman, Cari Hernandez, Melissa Hronkin, Linda Kelly, Diane Aldrich Kleiss, Kelly Koehler, Julia Koivumaa, Sharon Kyle Kuhn, Rosemary Luckett, Allyson Malek, Michelle Marcuse, Nikki May, Susan McDonald, Jane Michalski, Barbara Miner, Gretchen Morrissey, Sharyl Noday, Patricia Otto, Louise Pappageorge, Sonia L. Pratt, Cherry Rohe, Victoria Szilagyi, Harriette Tsosie, Sandra M. Unrein, Maggie Venn, Mona Waterhouse, Kathleen Waterloo, and Elenor Wilson.
Laurel Delaney will demonstrate the use of encaustic techniques on Saturday November 28, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at Woman Made Gallery.
Exhibition Dates: November 20 - December 23, 2009

LAUREL DELANEY: MYTH - ILLOGICAL
With Guest Artists Mary Jo O'Hearn and Galen Garapolo
Opening Reception: Friday, November 20, 6-9 p.m
Artist Laurel Delany's exhibition of paintings and sculptures in encaustic is truly a treat for the senses. Mixing her interest in mythology, psychology, and the metaphysical with the ancient medium of encaustic has produced visual magic in her solo exhibition "Myth-Illogical" at Woman Made Gallery.
Traveling and experiencing other cultures has had a major impact on Laurel Delaney's art. She studied Renaissance Art in Italy and ancient Mayan cultures and the influences of Spanish art in Mexico. She is an exhibiting artist and writer with a BA from Dominican University in River Forest, and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. She also teaches workshops in encaustic wax techniques as an affiliate of R&F Paints in Kingston, New York. For more information visit www.laureldelaney.net.
Free demonstration of encaustic techniques by Laurel Delaney at Woman Made Gallery on Saturday, November 28, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
