Chicago, Illinois - Woman Made Gallery is pleased to announce the "Annual Members' Show" juried by Judithe Hernández, and the Her Mark 2010 publication and exhibtion with art juried by Maria Elena Buszek, and poetry juried by Maureen Seaton. The Artisan Gallery opens with "Materiality: Emphasis on the Media" juried by Margaret Denny.

Please join us at the artist reception on Friday, July 31 from 6 to 9 p.m., at 685 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. Works will be on display until August 27, 2009.

In addition to group and solo exhibitions, Woman Made presents a Release Party for Her Mark 2010. Poets included in the publication will read from their work on Sunday, August 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is hosted by WMG's Poetry Event Coordinator Nina Corwin.

Regular Gallery hours are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 12 to 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.

Annual Members' Show

The "Annual Members' Show" brings together a diverse range of work featuring 41 artists who explore issues from identity, to social and political landscapes, to the human condition. Included in this group exhibition are painting, sculpture, photography, installation, mixed media, and video, demonstrating the diverse and probing work of today's artists.

Juror Judithe Hernández's was a founding member of the Chicano Art and Los Angeles Mural Movements of the 1960's. Regarded as one of the important visual artists of the period, she was also the only female member of the seminal and influential East Los Angeles artist collective, Los Four, who broke the museum barrier with the first major exhibition of Chicano art in the United States. Her extensive exhibition record includes the ground-breaking first exhibition of contemporary Chicano art in Europe: Le Démon des Anges. Among her many public works is the Los Angeles Bicentennial Mural (1981) commissioned by the City of Los Angeles to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the city's founding in 1781.

The exhibition includes work by Grazyna Adamska-Jarecka, Cat Del Buono, Mary Button, Tianxin Sophie Chen, Patsy Reilly Davis, Betsy Dollar, Henrietta DuBois, Ruth Eckstein, Lucia Enriquez, Kathryn Gauthier, Janet Gerske, Sue Goldsmith, Christie Helm, Juliette Herwitt, Tehniyet Hussain, Tatijana Jacenkiw, Pepper Johnson, Elka Kazmierczak, Alessandra Kelley, Lea Basile Lazarus, Mary Longley, Maya Just Maya, Amanda Meeks, Bert Menco, Jane Michalski, Dora Natella, Jean Nerenberg, Julie Niskanen, Debbie Heemstra Novak, Sarah Rehmer, Kim Rogers, Elizabeth Sanderson, Wendy Segal, Beth Shadur, Sandy Sheagren, Ruth G. Sikes, Dian Sourelis, Katherine Strause, Elena Aguirre Sznajder, Cheryl Toles, and Kathy Weaver.

The Artist Reception is on July 31 from 6 to 9 p.m., and works will be up through August 27, 2009.

Her Mark 2010

Cover page of "Her Mark" 2010 Woman Made Gallery is proud to present Her Mark 2010, a publication with art and poetry by 48 women. Juror Maria Elena Buszek made the art selections, and Maureen Seaton juried the poetry entries. Designed by Karin Kuzniar and edited by Marty Bash, Her Mark 2010 includes a layout with color reproductions, poetry, and weekly calendar pages with holidays and moon cycles.

In addition to the publication, WMG hosts an exhibition featuring most of the Her Mark 2010 artworks. The Artist Reception is on July 31st from 6 to 9 p.m. The Release Party and Reading is on August 2 from 2 to 4 p.m. Her Mark 2010 copies are available at the Artist Reception and Release Party or may be ordered for $15 per copy plus shipping. Reading at WMG

Join curator Nina Corwin and a group of fabulous poets for this special Release Party and Reading while the Her Mark 2010 exhibition is on display.

The reading takes place on August 2, 2009 from 2 to 4 p.m at Woman Made Gallery, 685 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60642. The event is free to the public, and refreshments will be served.

Woman Made Gallery is a tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization founded in 1992. Its goal is to support women in the arts by providing opportunities, awareness, and advocacy.
