Visions of Beauty - Solo Show by Judy Cooperman
In Judy Cooperman’s “Visions of Beauty” the
relationship between women and the contemporary
culture, with its prescriptives and necessities to
become beautiful, is viewed through striking
photographs that engage the viewer by
their immediacy and reveal the reality of the process.
Artist Judy Cooperman began this ongoing project in
2000, investigating and recording through
photographs what women do in the name of beauty.
Considering the extent to which women have gone to
follow the dictates of the “beauty culture,” ranging
from temporary and minor adjustments in appearance
to more radical and permanent changes with plastic
surgery and life threatening eating disorders, she
feels it is important to bring to light both the light
and dark sides of this fact.
Judy Cooperman's exhibition: "Visions of Beauty" will
be on display from May 19 to June 15, 2006.
