Woman Made Gallery Press Release
March 2005
Group and Invitational Shows at WMG
April 8 - May 12, 2005

Chicago - March 20, 2004 Secret Place, Sacred Space - a group and invitational exhibition of transformative, healing art created from the secret, sacred place within women - was juried by artists and founders of Survivor Circle, NFP, Lauren R. Mathews and Skye Enyeart.

The exhibition, which features works by 32 artists in the group show and nine artists in the invitational portion of the show - opens April 8, 2005 with an artist reception from 6 - 9 p.m. at Woman Made Gallery.

Secret Place, Sacred Space
The jurors viewed submissions from more than 250 women in all media (except performance) and narrowed their selections down to 37 pieces by 32 artists from around the country.

In their statement, Mathews and Enyeart said: We found many brave women opening their healing spaces to reveal their process, their lives, and their mysteries. Themes emerged organically as we viewed the art - disease, abuse, death, and other forms of loss were common and we were struck by their profound visual interpretations. We were also struck by a theme we had not anticipated: the fracture between spirituality and self and how nature seems, for many women, to heal that rift. We feel honored to have viewed all the works and have been touched by all the stories therein. Because we unfortunately cannot include every piece due to space limitations, we chose works that told a strong visual story and/or very much communicated healing to the viewer.
