Economic Development Master Plan Presentation

June 27

The draft Economic Development Master Plan, which has been in development over the last several months, will be presented at the
June 27 City Council meeting. The Plan will serve as a blueprint for business development for the next several years, and provide strategies for attracting private investment and job creation.

City Facade Grants Available

Sushi Yama Facade Grant 

In March, the Escondido City Council approved new policies for the City's Facade and Property Improvement Program. The program provides matching grants of up to $25,000 for exterior property improvements to commercial and industrial properties.

Free Online Source of Business and Market Information
 

The Escondido Public Library's Business Center offers free online research tools to library cardholders, including market research databases that would typically require a paid subscription costing hundreds of dollars. Some, including Reference USA, don't even require you to be at the Library - they are accessible from any computer with a Web connection. Analyze your competition, find a job, research executives and companies worldwide and find relevant news articles, all free of charge with an Escondido Public Library card.

New Commercial Recycling Regulations Take Effect July 1

 

Starting July 1, 2012, businesses and public entities that generate four cubic yards or more of waste per week and multifamily units of five or more will be required to recycle. For information go to the State of California's CalRecycle Web site: http://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/climate/recycling/FAQ.htm

Mayor's Business Visits

Over the past several months, Escondido Mayor Sam Abed has met with almost two dozen local businesses. From retailers to manufacturers, large operations to one-person shops, he wants to hear first-hand the experiences of the local business community. These are informal discussions to answer questions and gather feedback, and all Escondido businesses are encouraged to participate.
