Community Conversations

group meeting

We recently completed our first round of Community Conversations! Over the course of the Conversations, we met with almost 400 residents from across Detroit. These meetings aimed to update people on the current state of the Detroit Works Project, generate a list of local assets and strengths, and begin a conversation about how Quality of Life elements are at play in Detroit's neighborhoods. The information gathered at the Conversations will influence the planning process and decision-making framework currently under development.

The Community Conversations are a three-part series in four locations throughout the city-Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, and Central/Near East. Detroiters are encouraged to attend the series closest to their community and attend each of the three conversations in the series. However, if you couldn't make it to the first round, we would love to see you at future meetings!

The second round of Community Conversations will begin in May and will focus on Imperatives-or Things We Must Do-to improve Quality of Life for all Detroiters. The meeting will also cover different building blocks for the city's future and ask residents for their input at the local level. Please see the Community Conversations' schedule to the right for upcoming meetings in your area.

Roaming Table

The Roaming Table appeared at Focus Hope's Westside Food Center on Wednesday April 11th. It was nearing tax day, so a large number of residents were taking advantage of tax assistance programs provided by Focus Hope. Civic Engagement team members Ross Piper and Blake Hill, and Ambassador, Phil Pugh, were able to speak to several residents about the Community Conversations.

Engagement Map

This map provides a shapshot of face-to-face events that took place as part of the Detroit Works Project Long Term Planning (DWPLTP) process in February 2012; it also includes - but does not highlight - engagements between October 2011 and February 2012. To date, we have reached 29,456 Detroit citizens. The DWPLTP's reach is based on a combination of participation (head counts) and distributed information (materials). It is not a strict sum of these two measures.  For a comprehensive overview of all DWPLTP civic engagement events to date, visit our website.
