Spirit of Space's "Detroit Stories" also made an appearance during the opening night of the exhibit.  Attendees had a chance to get a sneak peak at a few stories that captured the contemporary oral history of Detroiters, as well as, participate in the filming by sharing their personal stories with producer Dean Storm. The stories and experiences of Detroiters that are being collected will ultimately help shape the data and analysis that's being done to create a new roadmap for the city's future.

Friday, March 30 - 9 a.m. to 12 noon

The training will take place at our HomeBase office located at 2929 Russell Street, in the Eastern Market. The training sessions will help citizens gain familiarity and a comfort level in talking about and representing Detroit Works Project Long Term Planning to the community.

The training session will be interactive, fun, and informative. It will also feature

"As a Street Team Member and Ambassador I enjoy getting out the message that there is a Long-term planning process and the joy of relating to stakeholders, residents and visitors of our great city that a change is on the way and that we all can be a part of it. I am a true believer in order to make our City of Detroit a vibrant, safe, stunning and thriving place to live, work, play we must all work together to accomplish this task. I commend the Michigan Community Resources and all the funders for all the hard work and resources they have invested in the Long-Term Planning Process initiative."

Planning Awareness Toolkits

The first three chapters of the 'planning awareness' toolkits are now available! Look out for these chapters at the roaming table, HomeBase, and at meetings around town.  You can also find digital versions here.  Chapter 1 provides an overview of Urban Planning as it relates to both the functionality of a city and the quality of life for city residents.  Chapter 2 presents Land Use as a way of organizing the activities that happen in a city. And finally, Chapter 3 discusses Environmental Health and the connection between our urban environment and our own personal health.  Look out for future chapters on Infrastructure and Public Utilities, and Economic Development.

Engagement Map

This map provides a snapshot of face-to-face events that took place as part of the Detroit Works Project Long Term Planning (DWPLTP) process in February 2012; it also includes - but does not highlight - engagements between October 2011 and January 2012.
Since December 4, we have reached 26,035 citizens. Our reach measures the DWPLTP's reach based on a combination of participation (head counts) and distributed information (materials). It is not a strict sum of these two measures. EngagementMap.pdf
