Mission Statement

The mission of Eastern Center for Arts and Technology, a leader in technology and in developing innovative, responsive programs, is to equip all students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to select, enter and succeed in a career, and to anticipate and adapt to change by providing high-quality technical instruction and specialized services.

Student Success - A New Year of SkillsUSA Activities and Competitions

School starts on September 6.  All EASTERN students have the opportunity to participate in EASTERN's leadership organization, SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives, working together to ensure America has a skilled work force.

Each year, EASTERN students involved in SkillsUSA have the opportunity to compete with other students in their career and technical program for scholarships, awards and tools of the trade.

Students also host fundraisers and donate community service hours throughout the year to a specific charity.  The 2012 - 2013 SkillsUSA charity is Feeding America. Feeding America is the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity. Their mission is to feed America's hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.

Alumnus Spotlight - Cody Garlanger

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2009 Collision Repair Technology/Abington High School graduate, Cody Garlanger, iscurrently serving the United States Air Force as an Aerospace Propulsion Journeyman stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Garlanger's expertise in the automotive field gained through his program at EASTERN translates in his current position as a jet engine mechanic on the F-15 Eagle, a twin-engine, all-weather tactical fighter.

Garlanger had an interest in cars from an early age, and when the opportunity to enroll at EASTERN presented itself, he took advantage of the opportunity to learn more about the field while earning the high school credits he needed to graduate. At EASTERN, Garlanger was active in SkillsUSA, EASTERN's student leadership organization, and was the 2008 - 2009 school-wide Secretary. He received third place in the SkillsUSA District 2 Competition for Automotive Refinishing Technology and was part of the student team that assisted the Cheltenham Police Department in converting a donated ambulance into a Special Weapons and Tacti  cs vehicle. He received many awards during his time at EASTERN, such as the State Farm Good Neighbor Award, the Straight A Award, and Perfect Attendance.

"I would urge any high school sophomore interested in a career field to check out the programs at EASTERN," said Garlanger. "If you choose Collision Repair Technology, the instructor, Mr. Parke, will help you to become successful. EASTERN taught me how to be professional in an actual job situation because in our class we had actual clients. EASTERN was a great head start for me and my career."

EASTERN's Collision Repair Technology program provides students with a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience needed to carry out repairs on motor vehicles. Students benefit from the use of I-Car (Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair) enhanced curriculum.

Inside EASTERN - A New Program On Track for 2013 - 2014

The Executive Advisory Committee (EAC) and Joint Operating Committee (JOC) have approved the launch of an Office Management program for the 2013 - 2014 school year.

The Office Management program will prepare students for a career in a professional office environment.  Students will study the current Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access; and other communications technologies. Students will leave the program well-versed on creating spreadsheets; composing correspondence; managing databases; creating presentations; document management; and on the use of office machines.

Students enrolled in the Office Management program will prepare for post-secondary education or employment in careers such as Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, Data Input Specialist, and Customer Service Representative.
