 | Student Success - Matthew Mines; June Student of the Month |

Matthew Mines is the June 2012 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology
(EASTERN) in Willow Grove. He is in his second year of EASTERN's Construction Technology program and a senior at Abington High School. The Student of the Month
Award is sponsored by EASTERN's faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.
At EASTERN, Matthew maintains an A average in his Construction Technology program. He has been providing construction and home repair services for family and friends since 2009 on projects such as renovating a basement from demolition to framing and drywall, shed building, and room painting.
At EASTERN, Matthew represented EASTERN during the Career Expo visitations. At Abington High School he has participated on the Varsity Boys Soccer; Varsity Boys Volleyball; Boys Track; Chorus; and Friends Against Alcohol and Drugs. He volunteered his time for four years to help run a soccer clinic for Special Olympics, and refereed in three Special Olympics soccer tournaments.
"Matthew is determined and focused," said EASTERN Construction Technology instructor, Jeff Pakula. "He has developed a clear path toward his career and his goals, and I have no doubt he will achieve all that he sets out to do."
After completion of his EASTERN program and graduation from Abington High School, Matthew plans to attend Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology for their two-year program in Carpentry Technology. He also plans to get certified in masonry; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; and electrical technology, and eventually plans to pursue his Bachelor's degree in Business so that he can run his own company.

 | Alumnus Spotlight - Nick Raimondi |
EASTERN 2011 Commercial Art/ Hatboro-Horsham High School graduate, Nick Raimondi, is currently completing his Associate Degree in General Fine Arts at Montgomery County Community College (MCCC). After completing his program at MCCC, he plans to pursue his Bachelor's degree in Art Education with a minor in Photography at Temple University. He is currently teaching photography for EASTERN's Summer Fun program for the third consecutive year. He works part-time at Gap, and does freelance wedding photography and portraits.
Raimondi has always had an interest in art and photography. His artistic outlets of choice are photography and graphic design. He chose to attend the Commercial Art program at EASTERN for his junior and senior years of high school after attending an EASTERN presentation held at Hatboro-Horsham High School when he was in tenth grade. He heard from some students enrolled in the Commercial Art program that EASTERN is a good way to get into prestigious art programs in college, and to develop a professional portfolio.
"If you have an interest in any aspect of art, EASTERN's Commercial Art program is a good way to prepare yourself for college and the real world. The Commercial Art instructors, Mrs. Mohrey and Mr. Steinbacher, treat their students as if they were in the industry," said Raimondi. "I learned a great deal from my instructors and I truly enjoy coming back to EASTERN as a teacher for the Summer Fun program."
EASTERN's Commercial Art program covers everything from conceptual drawing and design to a professional portfolio. Students learn the value and application of their unique styles in both design and illustration. Students use industry-standard software on the Macintosh platform. Software includes QuarkXpress, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash.
Raimondi plans to pursue a career in fashion photography after he receives his degree from Temple University.
