Mission Statement

The mission of Eastern Center for Arts and Technology, a leader in technology and in developing innovative, responsive programs, is to equip all students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to select, enter and succeed in a career, and to anticipate and adapt to change by providing high-quality technical instruction and specialized services.

Student Success - Casey Hensley;    May Student of the Month

Casey Hensley is the May 2012 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove. He is in his second year of EASTERN's Electronics Engineering Technology program and a senior at Lower Moreland High School. The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN's faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

At EASTERN, Casey maintains an A average in his Electronics Engineering Technology program while being active in SkillsUSA as the SkillsUSA 2011 - 2012 PM session President. He received first place for Electronics Technology at the SkillsUSA District Competition held January 31 - February 1, 2012 at the Western Center for Technical Studies in Limerick, PA.  He was also selected to attend the Annual District 2 Career and Technical Student Organization's (CTSO) Leadership Conference at the Pocono Manor Resort in both 2010 and 2011.  SkillsUSA is a national student organization promoting good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and recognizes student achievement and excellence.

At EASTERN, Casey represented EASTERN and his Electronics Engineering Technology program at Open House and 10th Grade Career Expo.  He is also the student representative for the Electronics Engineering Technology program Occupational Advisory Committee. At Lower Moreland High School he maintains a 4.01 grade point average and is the supervisor of the Tech Crew.  Casey works as a Cashier/Bakery Associate at Giant Food Store.

After completion of his EASTERN program and graduation from Lower Moreland High School, Casey plans to attend Montgomery County Community College majoring in Computer Engineering. He will matriculate to Drexel University to pursue his Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering.

Alumnus Spotlight - Robert Steinbacher

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Commercial Art Photography instructor and alumnus, Robert Steinbacher, was invited to submit a photo from his own personal collection to The Art Institute of Philadelphia's Exhibit honoring arts and media educators around the country.  The exhibit entitled What Those Who Teach Do runs from April through June at the Art Institute's Gallery of Art.  The photo Steinbacher submitted was entitled At Rest, which depicts an antique wooden water wheel from a steel mill that is no longer in use.

Steinbacher, who is a certified Master Photographer, chose this black and white photo for the exhibit because it was shot digitally, yet maintains a traditional look and feel. It possesses critical elements of design, such as texture, lines and shape.

One of the mainstays in Steinbacher's teachings is to capture the image with the camera lens rather than through extensive edits in Photoshop. He encourages his students to use their creative vision to the fullest extent and use photo editing software only when necessary.

"It is an honor to represent EASTERN as a part of this exhibit," said Steinbacher.  "I encourage my students to preserve the traditionalism of the photo, which will in turn help them to best demonstrate their self-expression and improve their overall portfolio quality."

Inside EASTERN - EASTERN Recognizes 112 Students at 2012 Awards Night

On Thursday, May 31, EASTERN recognized 112 students for their achievements with $39,650 awarded in the form of scholarships, tools of the trade, plaques, certificates and checks. The event recognized students who are on the honor roll, Students of the Month through the year, medal winners at SkillsUSA District and State Competitions, winners of special end-of-year awards, and those who have perfect attendance. Approximately 500 individuals attended EASTERN's Awards Program held at the Upper Moreland High School auditorium.

Student awards are provided by the EASTERN Foundation, and also supported by businesses, various community organizations, and individual donors. The purpose of EASTERN's Foundation is to recognize EASTERN student achievement and success by assisting both students whose goal is post-secondary education and students who intend to start a rewarding career. Our business and industry partners inspired this effort and continue to support it extensively.
