He is in his second year of EASTERN's Electrical Technology program and a senior at Hatboro-Horsham High School. The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN's faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

At EASTERN, Bryant maintains an A average in his Electrical Technology program while being active in SkillsUSA as the Electrical Technology 2011 - 2012 Class Treasurer. Bryant represents EASTERN and his Electrical Technology program at recruitment events such as EASTERN's Career Expo and the Hatboro-Horsham College Fair.  Through his Electrical Technology program, Bryant received his Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Construction certification.

At Hatboro-Horsham High School Bryant achieved the honor roll in both the 2009 - 2010 and 2010 - 2011 school years.  He was also a member of the Hatboro-Horsham High School football team from 2008 - 2010.  He is currently employed at Giant Food Store in the produce department, and volunteers at the Horsham Fire Company.

After completion of his EASTERN program and graduation from Hatboro-Horsham High School, Bryant plans to pursue a career in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 126 as an Outside Lineman.

EASTERN's Electrical Technology program teaches the basics of electricity as well as residential and commercial wiring, data cabling and basic fiber optic installation.  This program prepares the student for success in such career fields as residential or commercial electrician, electrical engineering, teaching, computer systems engineering, communications engineering, and development.

Alumnus Spotlight - Cliff Hamilton

EASTERN 2003 Computer Network Administration/Hatboro-Horsham High School graduate, Cliff Hamilton, is the Systems and Network Engineer for Innovative IT Concepts, Inc. based in Warminster, PA.

Hamilton has been interested in computers since he was in the fifth grade and his interest just grew stronger as he continued through school. Hamilton learned about EASTERN's Computer Network Administration program through his cousin who was also interested in the program. Together they went to EASTERN's Open House, where Hamilton immediately filled out a registration card.

"When I heard more about the program at Open House, it felt like I found my calling.  It was kind of  like a Johnny Five 'mega input' moment for me," said Hamilton. "This program is like winning the lottery! You will put yourself ahead of all of your classmates by two years without a doubt, saving money on college and better yet, accelerating your way through college, which is a necessity these days to remain competitive in the job market. I finished my Master's degree in the same time it took my friends to finish their B.S.! For any student looking at the program that is interested in technology and is that 'go-to computer guy' this program is the perfect fit with countless opportunities to go even further. I simply would not be where I am now if it wasn't for EASTERN's Computer Network Administration program."

As the Systems and Network Engineer for Innovative IT Concepts, Hamilton performs every function from unboxing a computer to setting up entire networks of all sizes, locations, geographies and complexities. He deals with network technologies such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, but also handles Cisco, routing, high level Microsoft Exchange Migrations, and disaster recovery. Since Innovative IT Concepts, Inc. is a small company, they all are very well-versed in every aspect of computing.

After completing his EASTERN program and graduation from Hatboro-Horsham High School, Hamilton continued his education at DeVry University for his Bachelor of Science in Networks and Communications Management (NCM), and then The Keller School of Management for his Master's of NCM with a focus in security. He has also earned many other industry-standard certifications.

Inside EASTERN - Landscape Contracting and Culinary Arts Teach Students the Value of Sustainability

EASTERN's Culinary Arts and Landscape Contracting programs are working in conjunction to teach students the value of sustainability and the importance of farm-to-table.  Farm-to-table refers to a movement concerned with producing food locally and delivering that food to local consumers.

Jim Rall, EASTERN's Landscape Contracting instructor, and Gary Albert, EASTERN's Culinary Arts instructor, had a discussion in the beginning of this school year on how to best integrate some of the different programs that EASTERN offers.  Rall found that working with the Electrical Technology program on the new school entrance two years ago was a great experience for his students, and wanted to find other ways to partner on various projects.  Albert suggested the farm-to-table approach in which Landscape Contracting students would grow various produce and herbs and the Culinary Arts students would harvest these items once or twice a week to use in their food preparations.

Since January 1, 2012 Landscape Contracting students have been cultivating beets, radishes, tomatoes, Kohlrabi, beans, herbs and lettuce in their greenhouse. Culinary Arts uses these items in their lesson plans and for luncheon meetings that they cater for the participating school districts.

EASTERN's Landscape Contracting programprogram is a two-year half-day program that prepares students to successfully design, present and implement landscape projects; climb, prune and repair trees; greenhouse management; and all facets of property/grounds maintenance.  On May 1, 2012, Landscape Contracting will be holding a flower sale that is open to the public, including petunias, impatiens, geraniums, and hanging baskets.

EASTERN's Culinary Arts program is a two-year half-day program that enables students to acquire a variety of skills including soup and sauce preparation; preparation of meat, fish and poultry entrees; baking; kitchen sanitation; purchasing and inventory controls.
