The mission of Eastern Center for Arts and Technology, a leader in technology and in developing innovative, responsive programs, is to equip all students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to select, enter and succeed in a career, and to anticipate and adapt to change by providing high-quality technical instruction and specialized services.

Student Success - Benjamin Welch; November Student of the Month

Benjamin Welch is the November 2011 Student of the Month at EASTERN. He is in his second year of EASTERN's Computer Network Administration program and a senior at Upper Dublin High School. The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN's faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

At EASTERN, Benjamin maintains an 'A' average in his Computer Network Administration program, while maintaining an active role in SkillsUSA as the 2011 - 2012 School-Wide Treasurer. He was a delegate at the SkillsUSA State Conference in April 2011. SkillsUSA is a national student organization promoting good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and recognizes student achievement and excellence.

At EASTERN, Benjamin was the 2010 - 2011 student representative for the Computer Network Administration Occupational Advisory Committee (OAC).  This school year, he is the student representative for EASTERN's Executive Advisory Committee. At EASTERN's Awards Night in May 2011, Benjamin received the Computer Network Administration Outstanding Student Award and the OAC Award.

Through EASTERN's dual enrollment program with Montgomery County Community College (MCCC), Benjamin will graduate EASTERN and Upper Dublin High School with 21 credits toward his Associate of Science Degree in Network Administration.  He plans to continue his education at MCCC after graduation, after which he will matriculate to Penn State University for his Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Technology.  He is currently a Certified Linux Administrator.

Alumnus Spotlight - Justin Dillalogue
EASTERN 1998 Welding Technology/Abington High School graduate, Justin Dillalogue, works for Local 1456 as a Commercial Diver. As a union worker, Dillalogue works for many different companies on a project-by-project basis.

Currently, his work has him in Manhattan rehabilitating a pier at Fulton Fish Market at South Street Seaport.  After the pier is rehabilitated, the Fulton Fish Market, which is a historic landmark, can once again be used for public use.

Dillalogue was always more of a hands-on learner. His high school counselor told him about EASTERN and he decided to take a tour.  During that tour, he met Gary Devine, EASTERN's Welding Technology instructor. Mr. Devine talked about the job prospects and opportunities in the welding field and the money that could be earned.

While at EASTERN Dillalogue saw a magazine ad for Commercial Divers Academy in Camden, NJ. The underwater welding aspect of the field interested Dillalogue and he knew that was a way to increase his earning potential using the same trade.  After graduation from Commercial Divers Academy, he began working as a non-union diver and traveled throughout the entire United States for about four years until getting into the union.

"Career and technical high schools do not eliminate you from attending college," said Dillalogue. "To learn a life-long skill for free in high school saves time and money in college.  I have many friends who should have attended, but didn't realize it at the time.  Even if you don't use the skills you gained at EASTERN in your career, a program provides something valuable and fun, and knowledge that will last a lifetime."
