Mission Statement

The mission of Eastern Center for Arts and Technology, a leader in technology and in developing innovative, responsive programs, is to equip all students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to select, enter and succeed in a career, and to anticipate and adapt to change by providing high-quality technical instruction and specialized services.

Student Success - Jillian Plum; October Student of the Month

Jillian Plum is the October 2011 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) in Willow Grove. She is in her second year of EASTERN's Culinary Arts program and a senior at Abington High School. The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN's faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

At EASTERN, Jillian maintains an 'A' average in her Culinary Arts class, while maintaining an active role in SkillsUSA as the 2011 - 2012 SkillsUSA Pennsylvania state-wide Officer.  SkillsUSA is a national student organization promoting good citizenship, student leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and recognizes student achievement and excellence.  As a junior, Jillian was the school-wide SkillsUSA Vice President.  She also volunteered her time for EASTERN events such as Career Expo and the Holiday Food Drive.

At Abington High School, Jillian is a member of the Key Club, in which she volunteered for the 24-Hour Relay, one of the Citizens and Police Together organization's undertakings to raise money for Abington youth and community programs. Jillian is a cheerleader and was named the 2010 MVP for her outstanding leadership skills.  She is employed as a store clerk and cake decorator at Weinrich's Bakery, and as a waitress at the Italian Village Bistro.  As a young culinary professional, she is also a junior member of the American Culinary Federation and attends monthly meetings.

After graduation from EASTERN and Abington High School, Jillian plans to study Food Service Management at Johnson & Wales University, and hopes to one day open her own restaurant in Center City Philadelphia.

Alumnus Spotlight - Rachael Freed

Rachael Freed, EASTERN alumnus and 2002 Abington High School graduate, has a successful wedding photography business, Linked Forever Photography, based in North Wales, PA. Rachael graduated from the Hussian School of Art in 2005 with a Graphic Design major.

Rachael entered the Hussian School of Art  as a sophomore since the admissions department, along with various professors, reviewed  her portfolio and realized she had already completed freshman level projects in high school in EASTERN's Commercial Art program. Rachael always had a passion for art, especially illustration, but found her niche in photography after college. Rachael opened a portraiture business after college and utilized social networking sites for initial clients, but soon took on a partner, Meghan Krevolin, and started photographing weddings.  Recently, after the birth of her especially-photogenic daughter, Rachael incorporated her new-found love of photographing children into her already successful business.  This new baby/child centric business is called Hope.Joy.Photography.

Using the skills she acquired in EASTERN's Commercial Art program, Rachael has created and implemented her own marketing designs for her photography business, including brochures, business cards, and website design. EASTERN taught Rachael how to best communicate with her clients through the real-world projects offered by the school.

Linked Forever Photography was selected for the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Bride's Choice Award, and has been rated in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 by Wedding Wire. On August 26, they placed fifth out of 253 Philadelphia area photographers on the Philadelphia Hot List- http://phillyhotlist.cityvoter.com/linked-forever-photography/biz/618639?r=short.  For more information on Linked Forever Photography and Hope.Joy.Photography, please visit their website at www.linkedforeverphotography.com and become a fan on Facebook - www.facebook.com/linkedforeverphotography and http://www.facebook.com/hope.joy.photography.
