EASTERN's fourth annual Foundation Fundraiser is set for Friday, November 18, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Please mark your calendar to attend this worthwhile event.

The mission of Eastern Center for Arts and Technology, a leader in technology and in developing innovative, responsive programs, is to equip all students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to select, enter and succeed in a career, and to anticipate and adapt to change by providing high-quality technical instruction and specialized services. 



Student Success - Gabriel Wasserman; September Student of the Month

Gabe WassermanGabe Wasserman is the September 2011 Student of the Month at Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN). He is in his second year of EASTERN's Landscape Contracting program and a senior at Upper Dublin High School. The Student of the Month Award is sponsored by EASTERN's faculty, Joint Committee and the Willow Grove Rotary Club to highlight student excellence, success and service. Ten students each year are selected for this honor.

 

After graduation from EASTERN and Upper Dublin High School, Gabe plans to study Landscape Architecture at a four year college on the west coast. Upon college graduation, Gabe would like to start his own Landscape Contracting business.

Alumnus Spotlight - George Beech
EASTERN 2001 Computer Network Administration and Jenkintown High School graduate, George Beech, is currently running the server and network infrastructure for a start-up in New York City called Stack Exchange (http://stackexchange.com).  Stack Exchange, serving more than 20 million visitors per month, is a fast growing network of  63 question and answer sites on diverse topics from software programming to cooking to photography and gaming. 

 

Through his Computer Network Administration program at EASTERN, he started at Montgomery County Community College with approximately 13 credits already earned toward his degree. After MCCC, Beech matriculated to Arcadia University and received his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Technology. 

Upcoming Events - EASTERN Foundation Auction Fundraiser

The Foundation conducts an annual silent/live auction fundraiser to support student awards. This year the fundraiser will be held on Friday, November 18, 2011 from 6 - 8:30 p.m. at EASTERN. Tickets are $30 per person and $50 per couple, which includes appetizers and dessert provided by EASTERN's Culinary Arts students, a bidder number and live music provided by The Helper Monkeys (www.helpermonkeymusic.com). Auction items include restaurant gift certificates, bed and breakfast certificates, framed photography and paintings from local artists, stained glass art, services provided by EASTERN's career and technical programs and much more.

Inside EASTERN - New Employees

Ferne Andre began this school year as EASTERN's new Student Success Coordinator. Ms. Andre comes to EASTERN from Bucks County Technical High School, where she worked as a Special Education Teacher.

 

Amy Yarnall Mednick began this school year as the new Cosmetology Instructor. Mrs. Mednick is a 1994 graduate of EASTERN's Cosmetology program, and received her Cosmetology Teaching License through EASTERN in 1995. In 2003, Mrs. Mednick received her Bachelor's Degree in Vocational Education from Temple University. For eight years prior to EASTERN, she taught at Jean Madeline Aveda Institute in South Philadelphia. Since 1994, Mrs. Mednick has been a member of EASTERN's Cosmetology Occupational Advisory Committee.

 

Noreen McDonnell began this school year as the new Student Testing Data Aide. Prior to EASTERN, Mrs. McDonnell performed data entry services for Fox Specialties in Telford. Mrs. McDonnell has been a Parent Ambassador for EASTERN for many years, and has had three students attend EASTERN programs.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 18 of the 20 fastest growing occupations within the next decade will require career and technical education.
