August 2012 Newsletter

Dear Friend,
This month we are introducing our new cattery and emphasizing the importance of keeping your animal companions well groomed. Since they can't comb their own hair (although we have seen some cool cat posts that makes the previous statement possible!) and definitely don't brush their own teeth, we have to make sure to do these things for them. But fortunately grooming doesn't have to be a chore anymore, we've found some ways to really make it fun and easy! Please don't miss the heart touching story of Barney's rescue. We hope you enjoy this month's newsletter. |

Great News for Companion Animal Hygiene
Muddy Paws introduces a new and improved method of dental hygiene for your dogs and cats. We are proudly promoting Breath-Less Fizzy Plaque- Zapper and Breath-Less Chewable Brushless- Toothpaste both made by Ark Naturals. Never testing on animals, containing all natural ingredients, wheat, corn, and yeast free, and always made in the USA, Ark Naturals has become one of our favorite companies. Simply pour a packet of the Breath-Less Fizzy Plaque Zapper into your dog or cat's water or mix into wet food and let the saliva activated enzymes zap harmful mouth bacteria and stop plaque from sticking to your pets teeth. Coupled with the Breath-Less Chewable Brushless-Toothpaste chews you will never again worry over your companion animal's dental hygiene.
Just like humans, our animals require assistance when it comes to oral health. Eight out of ten companion animals will suffer a dental disease, which, if not treated, oftentimes leads a variety of serious infections, chronic diseases like diabetes and even death. When bacteria on the surface of their teeth is not removed or levels properly controlled it hardens into plaque and produces toxins which irritate your animals gums. Soon the gums become inflamed and pockets form where food gets caught and more bacteria grows. The pockets then deepen and the bacteria spreads to the root of the tooth, causing the it to loosen and the gums to bleed. This bacteria is now in the bloodstream which then transports it into the brain, kidneys, liver, lungs and all other vital organs where infection sets in and manifests. Soon after, organ failure sets in, which leads to death. Yeah, I know, it's a lot to chew on so to speak... If you are like many animal guardians you struggle with keeping your four legged friend still long enough while you shove a toothbrush in their mouths, pull back their gums and massage the three sides of their teeth. In fact, for most of us its a losing battle to even try. Giving that up you may turn to dental chews but there are so many kinds it's hard to sort through them all to find one that is cruelty free, contains all natural ingredients, and that works for you and your companion animal. Well look no further, we have worked to find the perfect product that meets all of these standards. |

Barney's Rescue
Meet Barney the Black Shar -Pei
 | | Before |
When Barney was rescued from a shelter in Philadelphia in June of 2010, he was in rough shape. He couldn't see at all because his eyes were infected and sealed shut. He was mostly bald from scratching himself, and he had burns on the pads of his feet. Thanks to Shar Pei Rescue of Virginia ( www.sharpeirescueofva.org), he was placed in a foster home and found his permanent home in August of 2010. After two eye operations (he's seeing pretty well now) coupled with a high-quality diet and occasional medications, his skin troubles are under control. He loves to play at the beach, chew on big sticks, wrestle with his friends, and even swim in the bay (not something most shar- peis enjoy). His moms bring him to Muddy Paws for daycare because he has a little trouble with separation anxiety and is still working on feeling safe. Thanks to Sheri Reynolds (co-mother of Barney, along with Barbara Brown) Barney has finally found his forever home.
