Dear Friends:

House of Tiny Treasures Easter Egg Hunt
HTT Student, Alfred, age 3

April 23rd will start the "Week of the Young Child," a national effort to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families.  SEARCH's House of Tiny Treasures (HTT) is celebrating with special recognition of our teachers.

Teachers make a significant difference in the life of young person.  I've had many influences, including some that have lead me to doing the work I am today.  Houston Chronicle columnist, Patricia Kilday Hart, captured my story and that ofSEARCH's House of Tiny Treasures in a two-part column two weeks ago.  The teachers at SEARCH's House of Tiny Treasures and Adult Learning Center are shaping lives now and for the future.  By providing therapeutic care to the children combined with appropriate learning opportunities, we are preparing the children to be successful in school and break the cycle of homelessness.  The adults in their own classes and interactions with engaging and passionate teachers are building confidence and the ability to make lasting change. Please read further about the Lathan family who benefited from SEARCH's education services.  Thank you for investing in their futures through your support of SEARCH.

In honor of the Week of the Young Child, take a moment to talk with your own children about how they can touch the life of someone who is experiencing homelessness.  Even the smallest actions can make a huge impact on someone's life.

Thank you,

Mother/Son Team Take SEARCH by Storm

Allison and Allen Lathan

Allison Lathan and her son Allen, age 6, are each SEARCH success stories in their own right.  Allen attended SEARCH's House of Tiny Treasures for one year.  The staff not only gave him a sound educational foundation, they offered the special kind of Tender Loving Care he really needed.  Finally, Allen was able to feel safe, learn and feel self confident once again. What do average Houston drivers keep in the backseat of their cars?  Pens and change lodged in the seats, circulars you fully intent to read, a car seat, your jogging shoes and yoga mat, or a pet's chew toy.  While your car's backseat can be the home for random and forgotten items, it can also be the keeper of hope.

Second Generation Supports SEARCH's Efforts
Photo of Deborah Brown

Deborah Brown is not the typical SEARCH donor---not because she's a teen, because the number of teen volunteers and in-kind donors is on the rise at SEARCH. She's a second generation SEARCH volunteer. Deborah's parents, Marisa and Harry Brown met at SEARCH (read their story here) and are actively teaching their children to give back. Read more
