Season's Greetings!

This marks the first of our weekly holiday newsletters you will receive this month. Each Wednesday morning in December, you will have an opportunity to read inspiring stories about our clients, volunteers and staff as well as hear about the meaningful volunteer opportunities we are offering. Having you involved here at SEARCH makes a big difference. Your contributions, especially during this holiday season, give the men, women and children hope and inspiration.

Volunteer Robert Tomlinson
Volunteer Robert Tomlinson
On most Wednesday mornings you can find volunteer Robert Tomlinson helping feed our clients breakfast and spreading joy. Good cheer is not just something Mr. Tomlinson does at Christmas, but is part of what he does everyday.

In addition to volunteering at SEARCH, Mr. Tomlinson can be found donning a Santa suit at the Friendswood Target during the week of Christmas. He loves walking around the store and engaging the children and their parents. "Some of the little ones start running down the aisle when they see me." he said. "I think I have more fun than they do. It's a hoot! I'm telling you."

Kind Mike, My Life on the Street
Kind Mike - My Life on the Street book cover

Michael O'Connor, former SEARCH client, recently released "Kind Mike, My Life on the Street"
For the next four weeks, read excerpts from Mr. O'Connor's book.

"I ended up on the street in August of 1993 because of my giving up on my battle with alcoholism and that seemingly hopeless state of mind and being. I had, the first day, run to some street people at the corner of Buffalo Speedway and Highway 59 in Houston whom I had helped for almost a year when I was trying to stay  sober. I asked them to teach me how to live on the street."

You can purchase Mike's book online at
$1.00 from each sale will be donated to SEARCH.

Tip of the Week
Consider stashing a few bottles of water and granola bars in the backseat of your car so the next time you see a homeless individual you can offer them a small gesture of benevolence.
