SORTING MAIL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mail is one of those things like death and taxes. You are going to get mail whether you want to or not. The best way to deal with mail is as soon as possible, sooner rather than later, or right now!
Go through your mail.......EVERYDAY! Stand near a trash can, recycle container or shredder or a bag or box designated for shredding and make quick work of sorting through each piece of mail. If you don't have time, right then, to open each piece of mail,
quickly pull out those letters or mailings that you know need your attention; an invitation, a bill, a letter, etc. Set those aside and go back through what is left.
Be very picky about what you keep to look at later or read from all the other mail.
The majority of other things, that most people find in their mail are: credit card offers, privacy information from companies about how they are working to protect your privacy, solicitations for donations, coupons, direct mailings, catalogs and magazines.
Coupons are great, but only if you save the ones you know you are going to use and you keep up with them enough to use them.
Privacy mailings you've read one, you've read them all.
Charities are wonderful and we should all be giving back, but think about making a list, at the beginning of the year, of all the charities you would like to contribute to. Donate money, once a month, to one of those charities, and be done with it for the year. You may only give to a couple of charities, that is fine, my point is donate once and be done with it for the year. That way you don't have to keep the mailings to remind you to donate.
Credit card offers - it goes without saying, you probably don't need another credit card so shred those immediately.
Magazines. Pay attention to how many magazines you are receiving each month. Do you actually have all the time you need to read them all in a timely manner?
Catalogs. There are so many of them and you feel like you should look through them so you don't miss anything. Catalog "shopping" can waste a lot of valuable time and be an expensive endeavor; you didn't even know you wanted something until you opened the catalog and there it was. Try to spend time on those catalogs to buy things for you, your home or your family that you really need!
