Plan of Attack
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You can attack a closet two ways......each of which is effective if seen through to the end.
The first way to attack a closet is all at once!
1.Take everything out of the closet.....clothes, shoes, pocketbooks, games, gifts, hats, gloves, papers, magazines......you get the idea....everything.
2. Try and sort the items into like items. In some closets that will be a challenge because there will be very few things that are alike!
3. Next go through each category of items and sort them into keep, give away, throw away or undecided.
4. Only put back in this closet those things that are representative of the purpose of the closet.....nothing else.
5. Anything left behind or that does not belong in the closet needs to find a new "home".
6. Go back through the undecided pile and see if you really are undecided by the end of this process. If not, go ahead and make a decision about where these things are going to "live".
7. When you are putting things back into the closet, think about the best way to organize the items. For example, to house my scarves in the hall closet, I use clear containers (see picture below). Don't forget to think about using the inside of the closet door. There are many inexpensive "over the door" organizational products that can serve many purposes. See the picture below that shows how I have my over the door "shoe" organizer repurposed to house gloves and hats for the family.
The second way to attack the closet is a little bit at a time.......a shelf, a section, a drawer, a rod. This method will take a bit longer to accomplish your goal but may work better with your personality and organizational style. Follow the steps listed above but do it one section at a time. Many times breaking it down into a smaller task will allow you to see the task all the way through.
What about the CLOTHES? Peggy, help me with the CLOTHES! I will......next month! Clothes deserve a newsletter of their own; that is a big subject to cover!
