Greetings!

February through April are perfect months to support activities in our community. Many of our parents and students are seeking ways to volunteer as well as share quality time with their children. Here a few activities where families can join together for fun and exercise while supporting the Greater Bay Area.

- March 31 - Trash Bash ( River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous) - this is the annual waterway cleanup and a great way to earn service hours. Numerous locations - visit www.trashbash.org
- Interfaith Caring Ministries - volunteer opportunities for students 16 years and older as well as for adults - icmtx.org
- Marsh Mania works to restore wetlands in the bay area. Dates and locations are being planned. Email Julie Mintzer for details - jmintzer@galvbay.org
- Texas Adopt-A-Beach spring cleanup - Saturday, April 28th from 9 - noon; www.adoptabeach.org
These are just a few opportunities for families to spend time together and don't forget about the PTA carnivals that are coming up. Get out there, have fun, stay safe and support our schools and the community!

Making a Motion at a Meeting
tmt@ccccpta.org
Making a Motion
From the point of view of the maker of the motion
Directions:
- Write your motion exactly as you are going to say it.
- Obtain the floor from the president. (Raise your hand and wait for recognition or say: "Madame President" or "Mr. President" and wait for recognition.)
- Read your motion exactly as you wrote it.
- It should be in the form:
"I move. . ."
The motion should be clear and concise. Explanations are given when you speak to your motion - not in the motion.
Examples of a motion:
- I move to increase the Newsletter expense line item by $5.00, the money to come from Carryover.
- I move that the first tax-free day for the year 2001 be on May 23, 2001.
- I move that we use the pre-packaged school supplies as our fundraiser this year, with the money raised to be used for the purchase of school planners for each student.
- I move to amend the main motion to include the phrase " with a new line item to be added to the expense budget entitled 'Website', with a budget of $50.00, the money to come from Carryover."
- After you say your motion, hand the written motion to the secretary, so she can have the exact wording for the minutes, and be able to read back the motion to the assembly, if needed.

Local PTA Judging
Local PTAs/PTSAs may advance up to 10% of the total number of entries received within each grade division and format. Entries will be forwarded directly to Texas PTA. Judges are not required to advance an equal percentage within each format. CAMPUS in the SPOTLIGHT
Has your PTA Unit accomplished something great at your Campus? Do you think other schools might benefit from this "something"? Are you willing to share your successes?
If you have started a new program, improved an old one, had a wonderful guest speaker, parent and/or student workshop; then we would love to share your ideas with others so that they can try them at their campus.
To encourage these innovative ideas and to applaud the PTAs and Campuses that allow them to flourish, we continue our program called "Campus in the Spotlight."
All entries will be judged and a winner announced at each CCCC Regular Meeting. The winning entry will be presented at the meeting.
If you have a program you would like to submit for this honor, please click
