By now, I am sure you have seen a lot of articles about making goal for the New Year. Naturally, most people use the beginning of the year to start fresh, establish their resolutions and set goals. I think this is great because I am a big believer in setting goals as I think they are very important to the accomplishment of a happy and successful life. But what I haven't seen is anyone asking the big question...Why? You see, it's not enough just to set goals. If that were the case, most people would reach their goals, but in reality, many people don't. This turns into discouragement and eventually, people stop setting goals. I see this all the time. The reason the vast majority never reach their goal is because they are missing a crucial understanding of proper goal setting. That is the "Why". One of my most influential mentors is Bob Proctor. One of the many things he taught me was "You don't have to know "how" you only need to know "why" . Truthfully, this took a while to really grasp, but think about it, most of the greatest accomplishments in the history of the world started with a passionate "why". The Wright brothers didn't know how to fly, but they knew why! I don't think they could have ever imagined how mastering the skies with flight would ultimately impact the world, but they knew it would revolutionize the way people traveled. What about Thomas Edison? Do you really think he knew how to perfect the incandescent light bulb? He did not, but he knew it would change human existence by illuminating the night. I could go on and on, but here's my point. Setting goals is very easy. Achieving your goals can be too, but first you need to know why. Second, you need to be passionate about your "why" Why do want to make more money? Why do you want to be healthier? Why do you want to improve your spirituality? Why do you want a better relationship with someone you're struggling with? I can promise you, if you have a big enough "why", and you have the passion to pursue it, nothing will stand between you and your goal. How big is your why? Make it your best week! Joe
