The 97th Annual Meeting in April in Miami was a phenomenal success with opportunities for leadership development, mentorship, and networking. A solid CME program was led by nationally renowned speakers.
AMWA's Gender Equity Task Force Receives 2012 Joan F. Giambalvo Scholarship Research Grant
Linda Brodsky, MD and Roberta Gebhard, DO, co-chairs of AMWA's Gender Equity Task Force, are recipients of a 2012 Joan F. Giambalvo Scholarship research grant. They will use the grant to plan a study to investigate the work habits of women physicians.  

AMWA Invites Applications from AMWA Members in Good Standing for AAMC Faculty Professional Development

Two complimentary registrations for either the July, 2013 Early Career or the December, 2012 Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar of the Association of American Medical Colleges are available to AMWA members.  Submit a cover letter and CV to associatedirector@amwa-doc.org by September 1, 2012 
New AMWA Initiative: Human Sex Trafficking Task Force

AMWA President Dr. Gayatri Devi announced a new AMWA task force to focus on the sex trafficking of women and girls. AMWA Board Member Dr. Suzanne Harrison serves as the chair. AMWA members interested in working on the task force should contact AMWA HQ.

AMWA has NOT been silent on the challenge to women's reproductive rights. Since the assault began, AMWA has issued numerous statements expressing shock and dismay that our legislators can be taking us back to the same sexist and paternalistic debate that we thought was over and done with decades ago.

The Patient, Consumer and Public Health Coalition is an informal coalition of individuals and nonprofit organizations representing the interests of patients, consumers, health-care professionals, scientists, and public health experts and advocates.

AHA Research Dollars Targeted for Research Conducted by Underrepresented Minorities

The American Heart Association is committed to funding underrepresented minorities in the field of heart and stroke research.  Visit the AHA Web site for the latest information on funding opportunities. The application deadlines are in July 2012.

NCADD Alcohol and Other Drug-Related Birth Defects Awareness Week

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence offers numerous resources to help educate those who become pregnant or who are planning to become pregnant.
