AMWA Member Jan Werbinski, MD to Speak at OSSD/ISGM Meeting 

Jan Werbinski, MD will speak at the June conference of The Organization for the Study of Sex Differences (OSSD) and the International Society of Gender Medicine, about the AMWA digital library and the work of the Women's Health Working Group (WHWG). Dr. Werbinski has been the driving force behind Medpedia - a new model for sharing and advancing knowledge about health, medicine and the body. 

Working Women with Retired Husbands - Earn $20 with This Online Survey

Working women with a retired husband or partner are needed for an online study. This study is approved by the Agnes Scott College review board. Link to the study. 

Exercise Helps Protect Brain From Cognitive Changes, Including Alzheimer's 

A study in the Arch Neurol evaluated the effects of aerobic exercise on mild cognitive impairment and found nonpharmacologic intervention to improve executive control processes for older women at high risk of cognitive decline. 

More Women Physicians Today

Women now comprise 31% of physicians, up from just 12% in 1981. The increase is consistent with the increased participation of women in the professional workforce over a similar time frame.  

Women Report Pain Differently Than Men

A report in the Journal of Pain studied 20 different ailments and noted that women described pain levels higher than men. Read a summary of the report

Most of the U.S. population consumes sodium in excess of daily guidelines (<2,300 mg overall and 1,500 mg for specific populations). Sodium consumption from specific food categories was estimated among 7,227 participants aged ≥2 years in the What We Eat in America, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2007-2008

Former AMWA Executive Assistant Marie Patricia Glanz of Alexandria, VA passed away on January 29, 2012 after a long illness. Marie was a valued member of the AMWA community. Read more.
