Cathy Calhoun - Cathy is known for having many terrific events. One thing I learned from Cathy is you never know which event will be the big hit, so you have to keep trying. For example Calhoun jewelers had a gingerbread house making contest that was so successful she had to expand out of her store. You have to keep trying different events because you never know which will be the big success.

Houston Diamonds - Rex tried a very bold move a few years ago and got great results! He had 20 guys dress up in Santa costumes and hold signs for his store on different street corners around the city. What was the result? A 50% increase in sales that year!

Stanley Jewelers - Stanley's links their website to many different jewelry lines. Whether you link to jewelry or show items on your web page, it is vital to have product on your website. A guy looking for a necklace at 2am on Sunday is going to go to your website and expect to see pictures of necklaces for sale. If he doesn't he will move to another website. You can still make sure the customer comes in your store to buy the jewelry, but you need to make sure the shopping customer can see jewelry options when shopping on-line.

SMELL. Scents are important. Studies have show men spend more money if they smell roses.

FASHION. Advertise that you have fashion experts in your store and/or on your website. Have the fashion expert write a blog and connect it to your site. People want fashion. Diamond Nexus sold $40 million dollars in CZs on-line last year. People don't always want gemological. Many times they just want the fashion.

SELF PURCHASING WOMAN. Blue Nile realizes this is the new jewelry market. Blue Nile is selling peridot jewelry on there website. They are targeting the self purchasing woman and you should too.

RAISE YOUR PRICES. On a scale of 1-10 are you the cheapest or most expensive in town? If you are one of the cheapest RAISE your prices. The other stores in town are proving you can charge more and still be around. (Jim Ackerman)
