Driving Fargo Moorhead's economy through innovation
In terms of entrepreneurism and innovation, the Fargo Moorhead region has a great foundation and has room for growth. And to be competitive, companies and communities need to innovate. That was the message from Richard Bendis of Innovation America during Greater Fargo Moorhead EDC's annual meeting to investors.
Bendis told a crowd of about 200 people that entrepreneurism and innovation is not just about making the next iPad or John Deere tractor, it's also about creating new ways to work together and new ways to communicate. It's that innovation, according to Bendis, that helps regions like Fargo Moorhead stay competitive in a global economy.

GFMEDC honors two primary-sector companies with impact awards
The Greater Fargo Moorhead EDC recognized two primary-sector companies that positively impacted employment in Greater Fargo Moorhead in 2010. The GFMEDC presented the impact awards during its annual meeting for investors
Caterpillar Remanufacturing Drivetrain LLC., received the impact award for greatest increase in employment for their growth of 100 full-time employees in 2010.
Trail King Industries Inc., received the award for greatest percentage increase in employment for their growth of 55% in full-time employees in 2010.

Region welcomes new businesses
Midco Connections is expanding its operations into Fargo. The company based in Sioux Falls will open the second location in September 2011 and plans to add 100 jobs by the third quarter of 2011. Midco is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Midcontinent Communications and specializes in serving clients in the catalog and e-commerce industry.
MTI, a Mohall-based company, is expanding into Fargo. The contact center will be located in North Fargo and plans to add 50 jobs to the region. MTI has existed in 21 other North Dakota communities for the past 21 years. MTI is a leading provider of contact center solutions.
While the GFMEDC focuses its recruitment efforts on the targeted technology areas in our strategic plan, we are happy to welcome these companies to the region.

Fargo Jet Center earns top ten ranking in international publication
The Fargo Jet Center has been ranked the number 8 aviation service company in the 2011 Aviation International News (AIN) FBO Survey - The Americas. 160 companies qualified for the survey, the Fargo Jet Center was the only company listed in North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana. Companies were evaluated in four categories: line service, passenger amenities, pilot amenities and facilities.

America's best affordable places, 2011, Bloomberg Businessweek
Cass County, ND ranks No. 1 on the ranking. The ranking took into consideration several factors including housing costs, unemployment, educational attainment, family income, poverty and commute time. Region ranks in nation's top ten for financial fitness according to Men's Health Magazine.
With an A-, Fargo Moorhead made #9 on the list. The magazine reviewed personal bankruptcy rates, average credit scores, debt and late payments
Second best city for men Men's Health also lists Fargo as second best city for men. MSN Careers lists Fargo as one of the best places for a career North Dakota is #1 on the list for best places for job seekers. The report cites the state's low unemployment rate which is the lowest in the country. "Revenge of the Squares in North Dakota" Article in Washington Times by Joseph Bottum highlights the recent economic good fortune found in Fargo and North Dakota. |
