Public Debate Heats Up
Supporters and opponents speak out at LUAC hearing

Yesterday, supporters and opponents of the Phelps Family project came out to tour the site and then attend the LUAC hearing in Salinas.  You can read the press reports here: The Californian and The Herald

Be sure to cast your "VOTE" on the project at the Herald!  Add your own comments on the articles too.

Clearing up confusion on the issues of traffic and water
Supporter Larry Daniels has sent an illuminating Letter to the Editor that we wanted to share with you.  In it, Larry clearly explains why shorter trips and local shopping reduces traffic on Highway 68 and how the use of bio-swales and underground storm water retention systems can actually improve underground water recharge rates compared to no project at all.

Subdivision Hearing on Thursday
Supporters invited to speak at 9:40 am on July 29

The county's subdivision committee consists of six county staff members and one planning commissioner.  The Phelps Family project requires a standard subdivision tentative map to divide two existing lots of record into seven lots.  We are asking the committee to support removal of the B-8 zoning overlay so the subdivision can occur.  We will be preparing a short summary of the issues involved to help educate anyone who can attend and speak at the hearing.

Can you RSVP whether you can attend so we can provide you with background information?  phelpsfamily@corraldetierra.com

Help Us Get the Word Out

PHelps Family
You...our friends and neighbors...have been simply incredible in supporting our family's dream of creating a shopping village that serves as a beautiful entrance and town center for our community.  We are getting closer thanks to you.  Between now and September, we will be reaching out to the community to let more people know about what is planned.  The Planning Commission will consider the project on September 8, 2010 and the Board of Supervisors will consider approval later in the Fall.

Between now and September, we could really use your help in growing our email list, getting more letters to the county and finding folks who might be willing to speak out before the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.  Can you pass on this Update to your friends and family?  Can you
email us with names and emails of potential supporters?
