Dear ,
Recently, we celebrated the career of one of our most distinguished professors, Dr. Kirk Wilcox. Kirk, who founded the UCCS College of Business accounting department in 1972, was honored by a generous group of alumni and community business leaders by the establishment of the Kirk Wilcox Endowment Fund.

Brenda Smith, Kirk Wilcox, and Mike Fryt celebrate the Kirk Wilcox Endowment Fund
|
For nearly 40 years, Kirk has given selflessly of himself to mentor students, faculty, staff, and even whole countries! His strong ethical standards set the tone for our accounting program, and for the accounting courses in the Executive MBA program run by the University of Colorado System. His high standards of ethics also contributed to his being selected to work on behalf of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) with Russia as it transitioned to a free market economy. Later, he worked with Cambodia and Vietnam to establish their accounting professions.
This endowment effort was led by alumni Brenda Smith and Mike Fryt and supported by generous donations from a number of organizations and individuals, including faculty and staff. The result is that we can be more competitive nationally in hiring another outstanding faculty member for the growing accounting program. We are in the middle of that hiring process now and will announce the results of that search in a few months.
Kirk is one of the finest examples of our vision to be in the business of building successful futures. He has lived that example for his students, his fellow faculty and staff members, his nation, and most importantly to him, his family.
Congratulations, Kirk! We are proud to honor you.
I would enjoy hearing from students and community members whose lives and careers were impacted by Kirk Wilcox. Please share your stories about Kirk with me at vreddy@uccs.edu or 719-255-3113. If you would like to make a gift to the endowment, please click here (please write "0450065 Kirk Wilcox Endowment" in the comments section.) Or you can contact Megan Fisher at megan.fisher@cufund.org or 719-255-5104.
Next month, I will tell you more about how changes to the accounting profession in Colorado are affecting how we educate accounting students at the College of Business.
Sincerely,

Venkat Reddy PS: don't forget to register for the Southern Colorado Economic Forum, to be held at the Antlers Hotel Friday, October 14 from 7-11:30 a.m. I hope to see you there.
