May 2011
Dear ,

On Friday, April 29, the College of Business recognized Joseph C. Woodford, Chairman of the Board of WCM Industries, with the 2011 Lifetime Entrepreneurship Award.  We had more than 320 people attend this luncheon event held in Berger Hall on our campus.  Joe is a great example of a Lifetime Entrepreneur, not only because of his financial success, but also because of his integrity and care for his employees.

Joseph C. Woodford receives the 2011 UCCS College

of Business Lifetime Entrepreneurship Award from

Dean Venkat Reddy

Joe's selection was especially meaningful for the college because of our Daniels Ethics Initiative.  One of the reasons he was chosen for this award was because of the ethical and moral code he put into place at Woodford Manufacturing.  The first core value of the company, he told the audience, is reputation.  He believes that without a strong company reputation of ethical conduct, the business will not thrive.  In fact, he said, reputation is more important than liquidity, profitability, and growth.  It's a refreshing perspective, and one I hope more companies will continue to adhere to.  Joe's experience is that, with a secure reputation for ethical practices, then liquidity, profitability, and growth all naturally follow.  Through our ethics initiative, we are furthering Joe's values as well by strengthening ethical decision making skills in our students and actively engaging our community in this process.  We believe that ethics is not just good for your conscience, it's good for business, too. Lifetime Entrepreneurship Award logo

The award luncheon supports our community and alumni outreach activities, and also provides scholarships to students who are seeking entrepreneurial careers.  We congratulate MBA students Jeffrey Bivens and Paul McDermott on their scholarships and look forward to hearing about their future endeavors.  The event concluded with a keynote speech on the entrepreneurial mind by Dr. Tom Duening, our El Pomar Chair of Business and Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship.   Please call me at 719-255-3113 if you would like to partner with us in this exciting event next year.

This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors, who are listed below.  When you see representatives of these organizations, please thank them for supporting your UCCS College of Business.
