Walk The Walk

Despite the heat, Foodshare's 27th Walk Against Hunger raised a record breaking $548,000 to be used in the fight against hunger. The walk TeamGifts of Love walk team joined thousands of people from all over Greater Hartford to raise awareness about the issue of hunger and to raise funds for Foodshare and local organizations such as Gifts of Love. Our walk team raised over $5,000 to be used by the agency in the fight against hunger. Thanks to all that participated and donated!

This year, we expect the summer months to be even busier than the winter months. Most children can't wait for summer vacation! But many Sue and Stagof them leave behind the free meals provided at school. We expect our pantry to be increasingly busy as parents find ways to provide for their children over the summer months. Especially this summer when stretched budgets may not be able to include summer camp.

The Postal Food Drive Delivers More Than Just Mail!

This year, the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive was held May 8. Volunteers from Gifts of Love transported donated food from local post offices to the Gifts of Love office where volunteers sorted the food, checked for expiration dates and stocked the shelves. The mission of Gifts of Love is to help meet the basic needs of individuals and families experiencing a temporary financial crisis so they can achieve or maintain self-Stampsufficiency.Our clients are hard working people who simply can't make ends meet. These donations will keep the shelves stocked for weeks as many local families seek assistance to make ends meet and provide for their families on stretched budgets.

And this year, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive officially passed the one billion pound mark! The National Association of Letter Carriers announced today that partial reports from this year's nationwide effort have pushed total donations collected along postal routes since the drive began 18 years ago to more than one billion pounds. The National Association of Letter Carriers are truly making a difference in the lives of many.
