Seattle Public Schools Sets Community Meetings to Seek Feedback on Capacity Management Plans

Thursday, October 6
6:30-8pm at Madison Middle School Library, 3429 45th Ave. SW, Seattle, 98116
Tuesday, October 11
6:30-8pm at Hamilton International Middle School Library, 1610 N. 41st St., Seattle 98103
Seattle Public Schools will host three community meetings - Oct. 4, 6 and 11 - in an effort to share information and ask for feedback about the District's Intermediate Term Capacity Management plan.
With enrollment trends indicating growth within Seattle Public Schools boundaries, the District implemented a task force of community volunteers and SPS staff, who collected and studied all available data relative to demographics and enrollment. Their work resulted in the decision to create and implement an Intermediate Term Capacity Management plan to cover the period of 2012-2016, prior to building schools as part of the Building Excellence IV (BEX IV) Levy program.
The goals of these meetings are as follows:
1) Show areas of projected student overcrowding in years 2012 -16
2) Propose solutions to accommodate projected student enrollment for years 2012-16 (with focus on next 2 years)
3) Identify critical dates and next steps
4) Show intermediate planning in the context of BEX IV Levy planning
The meetings will include presentations by Seattle Public School Capital Projects and Planning staff members, followed by a question-and-answer period with community attendees. Comments from the community will be collected, recorded, considered and included in the District's Intermediate Term Capacity Management planning process.
For further information, please contact Tom Redman, Capital Communications.
