Seattle Special Education PTSA General Meeting & SPS School Board Candidates Forum

The Seattle Special Education PTSA will hold their general meeting on Tuesday, September 27, at 7pm. The meeting will be an opportunity to hear the SPS School Board Candidate's response to questions presented by the Seattle Special Education PTSA. There will be a moderated Q&A from the audience.

Community Volunteers Sought for Facilities and Capacity Management Advisory Committee

The Seattle School District is seeking unpaid volunteers to serve on the newly formed Facilities and Capacity Management Advisory Committee, for terms of up to two years. The committee's primary purpose is to advise Seattle School District staff as it conducts short- intermediate- and long-term facilities planning based on current data, projections and objective standards. 

 

Interested individuals should submit background information and reasons for their interest via email to: emgraefinghoff@seattleschools.org  no later than Wednesday, October 12.

Seattle Special Education PTSA Conference
Student-Centered Collaboration:  Strategies for Effective IEP Teams

Please join us for Seattle Special Education PTSA's third annual conference, Student-Centered Collaboration: Strategies for Effective IEP Teams.  The conference will include a panel discussion about creating effective IEP teams with panelists from the various IEP team members' perspectives (e.g., student, parent, teacher, administrator, psychologist/evaluator).  The conference will also have two workshop sessions with presentations on various topics including, IEP Team Fundamentals, Advocacy, Mediation, and Navigating the Educational System.  The conference is free of charge, and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided.  An RSVP email to seattlespedptsa@gmail.com is requested for planning purposes.

Collaborative Research Partnership to Transform School Health: Confluence Conference

Seattle Public Schools and health researchers at the University of Washington are building a collaborative research infrastructure to improve children's health and development.  

Conference Participants will:

-    Share diverse perspectives about designing research to improve school health

-    Network with school health champions

-    Learn more about the project, progress so far and how to join the initiative

 -    Guide the future of school health research

Families and Education Levy

The Seattle Council PTSA voted to endorse a VOTE YES on the Families and Education Levy that will be on the ballot this November. The Levy funds programs that support early learning, school-based health centers, family support and out-of-school programs. 

 

Please consider having your PTSA/PTA learn more about the levy. Contact SCPTSA Board member Naheed Nizam at nanizam@gmail.com, if you would like the names of speakers who would be willing to come to your school and discuss the levy with your community. Find out more at Families and Education Levy.
