Dear PTA and PTSA Leaders,

SPS will have a Back-to-School Celebration at Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center next Tuesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  The Office Depot Foundation has donated 500 backpacks with school supplies. Backpacks will be given to the first 500 families. Look for other surprises at the Back-to-School Celebration as well.

As the new school year gets underway, you may find you have questions for the staff in Central Administration.  The district has just posted their new organization charts with contact information for various leaders. Click here for more information.

Please feel free to share information in this newsletter with families at your school.

I hope the last weeks of summer treat you well.

Sincerely,

Lauren McGuire

Closing the Digital Divide: Comcast offers reduced rate broadband service to families whose students qualify for Free or Reduced Lunches

We are living in the information age, and the internet and email are important tools for students and families.  Many district, school and academic resources are available online. Comcast is offering broadband internet service for $9.95 per month to families whose students qualify for free lunches under the National School Lunch Program. They are also offering a computer for $149.99 (plus tax) to these families as well, in addition to training on how to use a computer. This program is available to families who live in the Comcast service area and who are not currently Comcast Internet customers.  For more information on the program and to see if you qualify, call 1-855-8-INTERNET or visit InternetEssentials.com.

Please pass this information on to the families at your school.
