New leader for Seattle Council PTSA
(Welcome, Lauren McGuire!) |
Dec. 18, 2010
Dear PTA and PTSA leaders,
It is with great pleasure that I introduce Lauren McGuire as acting president for the Seattle Council PTSA. Through her activism, Lauren has helped her neighborhood deal with capacity issues and she's helped our council craft strong partnerships with district leadership.
She and I worked closely together, and I look forward to watching her lead our council of PTAs and PTSAs.
I stepped down from the Seattle Council PTSA Board to work with the Washington State PTA. The executive committee met after our Dec. 13 board meeting and appointed Lauren acting president. The council (that is you) will be asked to affirm the appointment by vote at the Feb. 17 general meeting.
Lauren has served on the Seattle Council PTSA Board as co-director of the NE region and as executive vice president. In these roles, she has helped open PTSAs at Jane Addams K-8 and McDonald Elementary. She also served on the board of the Bryant Elementary PTSA as co-treasurer for two years and fund-raising chair for one. Last year, she served as a district family connector for the new Student Assignment Plan and was on the design team for McDonald Elementary. Prior to joining our council's board, Lauren was part of the NE Cluster Coalition, which advocated for opening new schools in NE Seattle to meet the demands of increasing enrollment.
Lauren has a fifth-grade daughter and a second-grade son at Bryant Elementary. Before having children, Lauren worked in management consulting. She has an undergraduate degree in Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences, as well as a master's degree in communication. Outside of SCPTSA, Lauren coaches a Math Champs team for fifth-graders at Bryant and was assistant coach for her son's Junior First Lego League team this past fall.
The Seattle Council PTSA is the coalition of all the PTAs and PTSAs in the city. The SCPTSA board helps members become strong advocates. As council president, Lauren will be our spokesperson and she will lead PTA/PTSA work at the district level. She will also represent our Seattle units to the Washington State PTA.
Please join me in welcoming Lauren. She's going to do a great job!
