Dear PTA and PTSA leaders,
I have some missing dates for you, and an announcement.

Community starts with a dialogue
Seattle Public Schools and Seattle Council PTSA will be co-hosting a series of town hall-style meetings after Thanksgiving. In our SCPTSA eNews Bulletin, I let you know times and locations of the School Report meetings, but I left out the dates. (Sorry about that!) Here they are:
- Northeast: Nov. 29, 7-8:30 p.m. at Roosevelt High School
- Southeast: Nov. 30, 7-8:30 p.m. at South Lake High School
- Northwest: Dec. 6, 7-8:30 p.m. at Whitman Middle School
- Central: Dec. 7, 7-8:30 p.m. at Washington Middle School
- West Seattle: Dec. 9, 7-8:30 p.m. at West Seattle High School
The School Reports capture how each of our schools are doing. But data is only as useful as you make it. In PTA and PTSA, we're focused on where schools need to go -- and what we can do as volunteers to help get them there more quickly. Simply put, we work in kid time.
The reports are sobering and detail a pervasive achievement gap. And yet, some schools bucked the trend. What are they doing? And what can we do to support them? You'll be hearing a lot from Lauren McGuire, SCPTSA executive VP, and me about these meetings in the next couple of weeks. School reports School survey results
New leadership at the council And now for the announcement: I am happy. thankful, and a bit nervous to announce that I will be joining the Washington State PTA staff as government relations coordinator, where I will be in charge of directing and coordinating our association's advocacy efforts at the state and national level.
What that means is I will represent all members statewide, and more importantly help you speak up for Washington kids. I will help you understand what's going on in Olympia; I help you develop policy proposals, and if need be help draft legislation. I will testify on your behalf; I will help you testify; and I will communicate with and meet with government officials on your behalf.
Mainly, though, I get to help every Washington child reach his or her potential. And I thank each of you for this amazing opportunity. I get to be the kids' lobbyist.
The only downside is I have to resign my position on the Seattle Council PTSA board. There will be a transition period, and I will be working with Lauren McGuire on a transition plan. You'll be hearing more about that in the next few weeks, as well. |

Thank you all for your efforts on behalf of Seattle students. ... and by the way, Friday is the deadline for Reflections entries. Email Enrichment VP Stephanie Barnett for drop off location, 2thequeenbee@gmail.com
Sincerely,
