BGN Launches Blog
 Here at
Benefits Growth Network, we help employee benefits agencies build better
businesses. We're a group of thinkers and talkers who like to share our
ideas. Through our blog, we are communicating those thoughts and hope
that some of it will be helpful to you in building your business.
Our vision of the role agencies should be playing in the always-changing
marketplace is that there really needs to be a shift in the way benefits agents
& brokers work with their clients. It's our job as these agents &
brokers to drive that change and help educate our clients on the role we can,
and should, be playing with them. This change depends on helping clients
drive the success of their businesses, and in order to do that, we need to
position HR to be a strategic driver within the business.

Get Connected Making connections
is the cornerstone of our business and making quality
connections is the difference-maker. One of the best tools
we can be using to make and maintain these connections and control our
public message is through LinkedIn.
LinkedIn is a social
networking site for professionals which makes it the perfect
medium to connect with your clients, prospects, colleagues and business
associates.
You don't have to
update your profile every day, so it's an easy way to get started in
the new world of social media marketing which is here to stay. Social media is sure to evolve,
but if you plan to be a relevant player, you need to be engaged in this
new way of marketing which requires you to market yourself, in addition
to your company. Why you should set up and maintain your profile: - When your profile is properly filled in and updated regularly,
it will return high in Google search results for your name. And
you know your clients and prospects are Googling you, just as you
should be them.
- It allows you to have some control over the message being
distributed publically about you.
- You are able to find connections you may not have otherwise
known. For example, you might see that your best client is
connected with someone who is on your prospect list. Now
that you know this, you can ask for a referral rather than starting with
a cold call.
- You can search for businesses within a defined industry or
geographical location. You can add keywords and further
narrow your search to identify potential prospects. You can
see if you've got any connections to this person through your LinkedIn
network, plus you also have a complete profile of the person you'd like
to meet.
Now that initial, potentially
awkward conversation becomes much easier when you find out that you attended the same
school, have some similar interests, or friends in common.
Setting up and maintaining a profile on LinkedIn is an
important career/business-building move. Get started today: Set up a profile. Already on LinkedIn? Connect with me.

Selling Lessons from a 10-Year-Old Professional
by Kevin Trokey
This particular 10-year-old isn't a sales professional, but
he's a professional none-the-less. I was at my son's baseball game last night
and witnessed something that was nothing short of amazing - on so many levels. Our team plays a pretty competitive level of baseball. The
boys are talented, but above all they have a passion for playing the game. Not
one or two of them, but the whole team. From this passion, I witnessed
something I am pretty sure I may never see again on a little league field. It was late in the game, our team was on the field, there
were two outs, and runners on second and third....Read more
