Bring your checkbook for a worthwhile cause. This auction is utilized at the main funding source for the annual award of the Mona Brite Scholarship. We will be auctioning off items donated by area businesses and community leaders.

 

Online auction for the items will begin on April 18th and run until April 25th. All items are subject to availabililty. Please note that winning bid at end of business on April 25th will be first bid posted at the auction. This does not guarantee that you will win the item. Best way to secure an item is to also attend the auction on April 26th. Click here to get a sneak preview as items get posted.

 

New and exciting feature will be the "FORK". For an extra $10, you can purchase an option to sample the auction items.

In the restaurant guide, each listing will be by category and will include name, address, phone and hours of operation. We will also include breakfast, lunch or dinner, whatever is applicable.
All this for a cost of $150.00. That breaks down to a minimal of 3 years worth of promotion for $50 per year for one upfront investment.
  
In the church directory, each lilsting will be category and will include name, address, phone and Sunday and Wednesday services.

Take the last two digits of the year in which you were born, then add the age you will be this year - and the result will be 111 for everyone born in the 20th century.

This year will also experience four unusual dates: 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11/ 11/11/11.

October 2011 will have five Sundays, five Mondays, and five Saturdays.

This happens only every 823 years.
GolfAnnual Golf Scramble

The Annual Newcastle Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held at Purcell Golf Club on June 28th. The day promises a good time for all with tee time at 9:00 a.m. Play will follow a best ball scramble format, so golfers of all abilities can be accommodated.

The $80 golfer registration fee includes a cart, green fees, continental breakfast and an awards luncheon. Prizes for closest to the hole and longest drive will be awarded.

FMFarmers Market

Bring home the makings for a fresh, Oklahoma grown meal or pamper yourself with Oklahoma made products, straight from the farm to the table. This new agriculturally-focused market will include everything from fresh produce, flowers to homemade crafts.

The market is hosted by the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce. We will be coordinating exhibits, entertainment, contests and more for the true experience, visit the community calender for up to date information. .

Now is a great time to become a part of the Newcastle Chamber's Women's Network. Newcastle and the surrounding areas is seeing a larger number of women owned businesses. These women are knowledgable, exciting and have much to share. Become a part of the Women's Network, help mold young women entering the workforce (Senior Tea), help each other grow and create relationships with other business women.

SeniorNHS Senior Tea

The Newcastle Chamber's Women's Network will be hosting the 2nd Annual NHS Senior Tea on May 16th. All graduating senior girls are given the opportunity to come to thier first official business luncheon as young women entering the business world by either attending college or trade schools, military or the workforce.

It is a great opportunity young and old to come together and network.

UnemployCity Council Report - Fine Points

Public Works
  1. Change in process for water bill adjustments have to now be taken to council to approve requests. 4 Citizens presented their requests - all approved.
  2. Waterline to OKC getting closer to being completed.
City Council
  1. Approval to start the next fiscal year, Delta Community Action Transit Program. The council approved a 14 passenger van to be made available to the public for transportation purposes. (NOT for Charter). Most costs associated will be covered by city funding and grants via Delta Community Action through Oklahoma Department of Transportation. Costs for in town transportation will range between $1.50 to $2.00 one way and $1.00 per mile for out of town appointments with 48 hour notice. This will be curb to curb transportation, so no public "bus stops". Seniors wishing in transportation to the Senior Center for lunch will be transported free. Service will be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 5:00, will not be available after 5:00 or weekends without prior arrangements made. More information will be made available as it gets closer to implementation.
  2. Approval of change to Cemetery By-Laws to adjust for a "spilt" of a plot for the purpose of cremation remains, however it is intended for the entire plot to be purchased by family, having first right. 2 additional items were mentioned but not addressed at this time: Allowing for cremation container benches for plots and pauper plots.
  3. All firework stands permit applications have been approved upon signature of Fire Chief: Newcastle Cheerleaders - 2 locations at WalMart and the corner of 10th and Main; Newcastle 4-H Club - Main Street next to Richey Fence and J & W Tire Shop; Newcastle FFA Parents Club - Northeast corner of Interstate 35 and Highway 9; Newcastle Takedown Club - North Parking Lot of Glory Promise Center; Tri City Worship Center - Interstate 35 and Highway 9, exit 106.
  4. Approval of Resolution 2011-07 to recognize April 10-16 as National 911 Telecommunicator Week.
  5. Approval of Ordinance 666 and Emergency Clause of said ordinance that addresses gatherings where minors are consuming alcoholic beverages, giving police better access regarding probable cause.
  6. Approval of Mutual Aid agreement with the Town of Stuart (SE Oklahoma, corner of Hughes and Pittsburgh counties) - purpose to donate surplused equipment - fire engine and fire hose. Currently the Town of Stuart is working with a 1941 Fire Engine.
  7. Tabled approved purchase of tract by River Bridge due to language on deed restricting City from ever selling property. City Attorney and property owner to discuss better language that suits both parties.
  8. Assistant City Manager comments: New Fire Chief is taking the lead in his new position, he is completing the process for changes to Newcastle's ISO rating (effects insurance costs) and Tornado Sirens are currently being constructed, 2 will have to be relocated due to proximity to OEC powerlines.
