Dear Animal Compassion Networkers, Do you remember the story of Lucky? When the floors were to be refinished at a local shelter, all the animals had to be taken out or face euthanization. The community response was tremendous, but there remained one dog left when the time came to close: Lucky. This happy guy has no idea how close he came to the rainbow bridge, however. His favorite activities are playing (alone or with you) with his toys, turning in circles to impress onlookers, and generally showing off. Lucky's smile alone will melt you, and his antics will have you cracking up in no time.
Unfortunately, Lucky hasn't had the easiest time finding a home. His exhuberant personality and desire to sleep in someone's bed has not yet won anyone over. When we found out that we were selected to be the Blue Ridge Rollergirls charity for the April 30th bout at the Asheville Civic Center, we decided we needed to choose a dog or cat to represent us. Who has the most heart? The most tenacity? The best attitude? There were many candidates, but none so perfect as Lucky! He will be outside the Civic Center tomorrow to bid goodbye to the crowd after the bout. If you are interested in fostering or adopting this sweet boy, let us know! He is bound to win you over...after all, his derby name is "Lucky Charm-Her!"

Bout Details: * Doors open at 4 pm; First bout begins at 5 pm. * Halftime entertainment by Breakthrough. * 10% of proceeds go to Animal Compassion Network. * First whistle blown by Bill McClement of the WISE Guys on ESPN. |

Call to Artists:
Artists, crafters and pet lovers! Animal Compassion Network (ACN) understands unexpected things happen in life, and sometimes our friends and neighbors need a little help feeding beloved family pets until things get better. ACN provides free pet food to our community partners, who distribute it for us to families in need - at no charge.
2011 marks the 10-year anniversary of Animal Compassion Network's Pet Food Assistance Program.Since the program's inception in 2001, ACN has provided approximately 250,000 meals to hungry cats and dogs throughout Western North Carolina.
On Saturday, June 25, from 10 am to 2 pm, our friends at the Hilton Asheville Biltmore Park will host ACN's inaugural 'Feed Our Furry Friends, an Empty Bowls project!' benefit to raise awareness and funds for our Pet Food Assistance Program. We need your help to make this event memorable not only for raising much needed funds, but for showing our Asheville Pet Love in the form of your talent and creations!

If you have a hand-made product or service you wish to donate, please contact Lori Theriault here. Then plan to attend the event with your own furry friend! This will be a pet-friendly event, and each artist who donates pieces for the event will receive a complimentary ticket to attend.
