Dear Animal Compassion Networkers,
There is a buzz in the air at Pet Harmony and anywhere else two or more of us are gathered these days. The 7th Annual Taste of Compassion is set for tomorrow, Thursday, November 11, from 5:30 to 8 pm at The Venue at 21 Market Street in downtown Asheville, and it is shaping up to be our biggest and best one yet!
Taste delicious wines from Fat Cat Winery, Rosenblum (the Chateau Le Paw series), Quintessential Wines, Purple Wines and, of course, our good friends at Biltmore Wines. We owe Mutual Distributing a huge thank you for bringing us these wine offerings (for the last seven years!) Order your favorites for Thanksgiving and those upcoming holiday parties. They will be ready for pickup at Pet Harmony on Nov 16 and 17.
We are extremely fortunate to have the support of so many outstanding sponsors. Not only do they make this magical evening possible, they are our daily partners in our fight to end the euthanasia of adoptable pets in our community. R.E.A.C.H. of Asheville, A Taste of Compassion Top Dog Sponsor, also sponsors Pet Harmony and offers ACN members a 10% discount off their services. (My membership has paid for itself several times over!)
You can always count of Sensibilities Day Spa to support ACN and our events, but this year owner Jen Charlton has outdone herself. Not only is Sensibilities a Top Dog Sponsor of Taste of Compassion, Jen has also donated several decadent gift baskets and spa packages for the silent auction - 'Harmony for Him" with deep tissue massage and gentleman's facial, "Body and Soul" with a 60-minute massage, European facial, manicure and pedicure (you will be bidding against me for this one!), or how about a Hot Stone massage?
Alan's Jewelry and Pawn has once again come in like gangbusters. In addition to being a Top Dog Sponsor of Taste of Compassion, they are hosting the Heads or Tails game once again. It was a blast last year! When you hear us calling for the game to begin, make sure you have bought plenty of chances because the prize for winning this year is a GORGEOUS 14k white gold diamond bezel pendant. It features one, large, center, round diamond, set with a halo of surrounding round diamonds. The total diamond weight of the piece is .cwttw and it is set on a 14k white gold snake chain. The value of the pendant is $1295.00, and it will be yours if you can stay in the game long enough.
Of course you know that Animal Hospital of North Asheville, a Taste of Compassion Top Dog Sponsor for the last two years, has been incredibly generous to ACN. Just last week they sponsored an on-air challenge for WCQS listeners, along with Kim Brophy of The Dog Door Canine Services. ACN reached our $10,000 goal! In addition to sponsoring Pet Harmony and Taste of Compassion, Drs. Betsy and Dave Thompson have also donated gift certificates for medical care at their state-of-the-art animal hospital for the silent auction.
You've probably seen the hilarious Taste of Compassion commercials on WLOS featuring Tammy Watford of News 13 and Matt Mittan of WWNC News 570. And I KNOW you've heard the hundreds of on-air promotions donated for Taste of Compassion by Clear Channel, especially on Star 104.3. We are thrilled to announce that after a welcome by Julie Wunder of News 13, Josh Michael and Sue Myers of the Josh and Sue show on 104.3 will be our emcees for the evening. If you heard our live, on-air interview last week, you know this is going to be one lively night. We are also most grateful to PostNet in the Riverbend Shopping Center for their donation of the hundreds of posters you've seen around town, the beautiful tickets and a program that would make The Met proud! We are also grateful to The Medicine Shoppe for being a Taste of Compassion sponsor for the fifth year in a row! ACN frequently turns to the Medicine Shoppe for our rescued animals, because their pharmacy specializes in pet compounds! The next time your veterinarian prescribes something that must be filled at a human pharmacy, The Medicine Shoppe is the place to go. You can feel extremely confident that they have the right experience making pet compounds.
I know this is the part you've all been waiting for... yes, Prestige Subaru is once again offering a 2011 Subaru Outback with automatic transmission for auction at this Thursday's Taste of Compassion! Steve and Joe (you know and love them from our Subaru Pet Adoptathons) will be on hand to answer all of your questions that evening. But I will tell you that the Outback present that evening will be either white or silver and bidding will begin at $18,000. Please look up the value of the car for yourself so you can see what a huge deal this is! And that's not all, if you would like a different color Outback or if you would like additional options, Prestige Subaru will honor your winning bid as the base price for another Outback at the dealership and you just pay for the extras you want. I know you've heard me say this many times, but Tony Pelle, the owner of Prestige Subaru, Scott Wilbanks, the Sales Manager of Prestige Subaru, and all of the other Prestige employees are dedicated to the adoption of rescued pets and it shows in their tremendous support of Animal Compassion Network.

The food tables will be overflowing this year with gourmet vegetarian fare, thanks to The Laughing Seed (we're all crossing our fingers that Jason brings his vegetarian sushi rolls!), Nona Mia, Neo Burrito, Mountain Sunshine Farms, Inc. (cheese, cheese, cheese!), Travinia Italian Kitchen, Neo Cantina, and lots of goodies from Well-Bred Bakery & Cafe, the Sisters McMullen and Filo (oh, my.) You will not leave hungry!
We'd also like to thank our other sponsors for their generosity: Curbie (there will be a lot of wine bottles to tote away), The Venue, and Gray Line for the Trolley that adds so much fun to the evening (and will keep you warm and relaxed when it picks you up from satellite parking around the corner at HomeTrust Bank or at the Renaissance Hotel). We'd also like to acknowledge the promotional help we received from the Mountain Xpress, Asheville Citizen-Times, The Laurel of Asheville, WNC Woman, Critter Magazine, Asheville.com, Hendersonville.com, WCQS, WNC Magazine and Sheville.org.
Let yourself get swept away by the jazz stylings of world-renowned One Leg Up (who, incidentally, has been donating their talent to this event for 6 years). Many folks come out just to hear One Leg Up play - and boy are they good! Dance or just enjoy the music as you peruse over 265 silent auction items this year - our biggest auction yet! There are so many unique, affordable and fun items to bid on, it's a great place to spoil everyone on your holiday list!
This year's auction features original oil paintings, hand-blown glass vases, beautiful jewelry, weekend hotel stays (over five to choose from), housecleaning services from The Queen of Clean (Eva is one of a kind; you will love her!), vacations, a golf bag, a corn hole game, a Canopy Tour for 2 from Navitat (you actually zip line through the tree tops - the scariest rush of your life!), so many gift certificates for dinners out with movies or shows, pottery, handmade, intricately quilted wall hangings (donated by my aunt, I'm very proud), antique furniture, designer dog tags and leashes, a moving package from Two Men and a Truck, gift baskets galore, groomings for them and haircuts for you, design and energy-efficiency consultations, and pet photography sessions. And so, so much more.
I hope we see all of you this tomorrow night for the most fun in Asheville! Where else can you drink wine, eat gourmet food, dance to live music and talk to fellow animal lovers for only $30 ($35 at the door)? Purchase your tickets here or at Pet Harmony, ACN's adoption center and retail store at 803 Fairview Street. All proceeds from Taste of Compassion benefit ACN's Foster/Adoption Program, which transfers shelter pets into our loving foster homes. You'll have a great time and a homeless pet will get a second chance. For more info, visit www.animalcompassionnetwork.org or call (828) 274-3647. See you tomorrow!
Yours in rescue,
Eileen
