From the Desk of Dr. Dubec...

Dr. Dubec 8.10 Welcome back from what I hope was a rejuvenating and relaxing summer vacation.  The Palos 118 School District staff and administration is excited to begin the 2010-2011 school year on August 25.

We have been busy preparing for the students' arrival with a number of summer projects; from cleaning classrooms and touching up paintwork, to  updating the control systems at each building to reduce utility costs.

I have always been proud of the strong volunteer network of parents our district is lucky to have.  Your child's total educational experience is richer because of efforts by the PFA, MPA, and Educational Foundation.  If you haven't done so already, please consider becoming  involved in these organizations, because they are so beneficial to your children.  There will be opportunities to sign up for these organizations at the open houses in September.  Consult the calendar or your handbook which will be sent home during the first week of school for specific open house dates and times.

As a reminder, there will not be a supply pick up day at South, as was the custom in previous years.  Student supplies will be distributed on the first day of school at East and West, and August 26 at South.  South's supplies include gym uniforms, locks, assignment notebooks, and calculators.

While parents may be looking forward to the beginning of the new school year, children may not share their enthusiasm.  The annual Back to School Picnic on August 25 though, may be the perfect antidote.  It will be held at Palos South, from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m., and with food, games, prizes, and entertainment, is the perfect way to launch a new year of learning!

Wishing you and your children a memorable and  successful school year.

Dr. Joseph M. Dubec
Superintendent of Schools
